Stupid question about rear shock travel

Working on a cb360. I welded a flat rear hoop on my frame and removed the high cross brace on the back of the frame so I could install a new flat seat. I bought a new set of 13" shocks from progressive suspension (as opposed to the 12" stock shocks) to try to make up for lowering my seat a couple inches. So...

I compressed the shocks to get an idea of how much clearance I'd have before the tire hits the seat and rear hoop under max compression. I need about .5 inches to make sure that doesn't happen. Is it a terrible idea to put some type of spacer around he shock pistons to reduce their travel bu about .5 inches?

It's not likely that I'll bottom out because I got the heavy duty springs and I'm a pretty light guy. But if it does happen I'd rather my shocks bottom out a half inch sooner and keep my back wheel from locking up I'm the process.

Thoughts?
