Suzuki GP100

DownandOut

Hello there, im new around here.

I know you'll probably laugh at the fact im turning a two stroke 100cc bike into a cafe racer, but being 17 and poor, its all i can afford!

And anyway, parked next to the fake scrambler lookalikes at college it'll look epic.

Got this bike last wednesday, and compared to the 50cc scooter i've had to pootle about on for ages it goes like a rocket.

Here she is:

Then last night, i started faffing about with bits of wood,

And today, i screwed the structure together, added plate brackets, and filled the thing with expanding foam.

Just gotta wait about 4 hours and i can go and trim it!

I hope you approve nonetheless, im certainly looking forward to it ;)

Jono.

looks like a great platform for a fun little bike. I have a kawasaki g5 (100cc 2 stroke) that I'm slowly working on.

my 2¢: the seat looks a bit short and too far forward... try moving the hump back a bit so that it sits centered or a bit further back over the rear wheel.

Thats actually the sort of look im going for.

I prefer it when the wheel sticks out the back and i wanted the seat to finish roughly over the center of the wheel, like some cafe racers do.

Crappy small picture i know but shows you what i mean.

I do appreciate your input though ;)

Nice Landies you've got there Jono.
Make sure you keep all the original stuff from the back end cos you'll need the back wheel covered for your next MOT.
I'd set the seat back a few inches away from the tank like billington suggested.
Looks like a clean little runner :)
Personally I'd stage all the mods so the bike was always running and on the road.
:)

Cheers!

Are you sure you need the rear mudguard? i've seen all sorts of cafe racers go through mot's without them, as well as bobbers without rear mudguards at all?

Small update, by the way.

Few pictures for you.

Here it is all screwed together with plate brackets.

And heres the foam, I left it to dry and trimmed it, but theres a big dip in it so I added more foam and i'll give it a final trim later. Then comes filler etc.

More to come soon!

I dunno that a mudguard is required as such, but a certain proportion of the rear wheel circumference must have some overhang to prevent stones getting launched at following vehicles.

Well the plate and L plate might cover that, so i might be ok!

Yet another update, i seem to be doing well today.

I've now relocated the indicators ready for when that small part of the rear frame comes off:

Also test fitted the seat, which was partially still drying at the time, hence the slightly bumpy shape.

Then i did the final shaping of the seat.

Now, its filler time!

Right, im now done for the day, annoyingly.

For some reason, a whole tub of filler wasnt enough.

So i need more filler before i can carry on!

Cheers man!

I got insured on it last night, and i've just got back from a ride round and petrol station visit. Its so nice being able to do a bit of speed rather than holding the world up on my old twist and go.

As soon as my filler arrives i'll have a nice looking seat!

Nice work so far! And there's nothing wrong with a small bike, as long as it does what you want it to do...my current bike's a Suzuki 750, and I'm planning to go for something smaller on the next project.

Looking good, that bike you posted is actually a big inspiration since i have a cx500, looking forward to seeing how your bike turns out!

Cheers all!

This thing will apparently do about 70, so should do me fine for a few years. Reason is so quick is the fact its two stroke, it doesnt make the coolest noise but it does the job.

It'll look good when its done, just a case of getting there.

check out some two stroke tuning web site on your side of the pond for used vintage or just old 100cc expansion chambers. you can get a bunch more power from the exhust, it works as a turbo and super charger if it is well balanced with the port timing and intake and all.

maybe a 2.0 thing.

also i am super jealous i would love to trade my cb125 or even my old cb550 cafe racer for a 100 two stroke street machine. AWESOME project!!!!!

Well thankyou very much!

I do appreciate your approval and im shocked you'd swap such nice bikes for this!

I'd certainly do that, if you were in england that is!

I've got a flywheel puller coming in the post cos this is in desperate need of help, its running like crap at the moment. Once the points are changed and gapped, an external condenser is being added, carb is being cleaned out as well.

Only after is running properly can i carry on with the seat!

I'll keep you informed.

Right, this bike is now refusing to start at all.

Its flummoxed both me and my parents. Initially we noticed air in the fuel line which we thought might be causing it to run erratically, so I drained the tank, swilled it out, blew it through, blew the fuel tap through and cleaned the filter.

There was water in the fuel that came out of the bottom of the tank after it was drained. don't know how that made its way in there.

We then cleaned and gapped the plug, did the same with another, tried both, and when removed they seemed to be slightly oily and wet, as if its running fine then overfuelling. And my dad also seems to think that the spark might be breaking down under compression.

This thing is driving me mad at the moment. Had to cancel a load of stuff cos I cant get there >_<.
