Then the rear tank mount was welded in. It's tough to see, but there is a hole drilled in the center of the plate with a nut welded to it. This way I can use the bolt on rubber bushing type mount intended for this tank:
After a little deliberation with Andrew and Jordan I have a better idea of what the bike will end up looking like by the time it's complete. The tail section that I've been posting recently will be much smaller - I'm pulling the airbox and will have some room for electronics there. We also discussed the tank badges......but I'm going to concentrate on other areas of the build first.
Thanks again to both Andrew and Jordan! I owe you guys one......
Agree rich. Slimming that tail will look awsome. That larger tank does not make it look fat at all, kinda gives it a meaner look. more propotionate look than before. JMHO
Re: Suzuki GR650- The massive tank has the greenlight!
I fitted up the Pingel petcock to the 850 tank and everything fits wonderfully! I measured my older Pingel from the 450 tank......but measuring is one thing - actual fitting is quite another. The Pingel in question (for those that don't know.....these F'n things aren't cheap!):
Not the best pic, but it does fit around the frame no problem:
And I've decided to not run the stock-ish air box anymore. With it gone, I'm able to move some of the electrical stuff around......so I can lower the hump at the back of the seat. This is with all the gadgetry removed, and the tail lowered (the angles are all wrong for now, but it was just resting on what was left):
Re: Suzuki GR650- The massive tank has the greenlight!
I've got a GS850S with that same BIG tank, in the garage waiting on me right now. This tank was going to be my first foray into hammering in some knee dents. Glad I got to see your work first Love the bike!

1980 GS850 "G" (the touring model). Before I hammered in the knee dents it had a 5.9 gallon capacity - compared to my current 3.9 gallons. I'll post much better pics and more details later tonight.
