Hello People

I've been lurking in the shadows for a good while now.
Thought i would finally post a couple of pics from my build and some info.

I bought this old humpback GS750 from 1978 about a year ago.

Here is how it looked thee day i bought it:

Here it is in its current state:

It quickly got some new grips + handlebars, and i rode it the rest of that season (2011).
when winter came i decided to give it a cosmetic change and renovate the engine.

At first i wanted to build a classic looking cafe, but then realized the stupidity of a single seated bike, when i love having my girlfriend with me...

Ok. So then i turned my head towards the Bratstyle look, with a straight seat... But after a bad dream where my passenger fell of i startet to rethink that as well.

So finally after i was hired by th Wrenchmonkees i got really fond of their bikes and decided to do a more rough/rad/dirty looking bike, and that has stuck with me.

So i'm currently doing a lot of work on the bike, and its getting along very well (in my opinion)
The Engine is pretty stock, but with pod filters and motard exhaust.
Almost all gaskets has been replaced, new piston rings, cylinder bore, new valve seals, valves recut. Should be done in a couple of days.

Heres a couple of old pics from when the engine was still in.

Today i did a couple of things to the frame.
  • Removed all the original seat fittings
  • Made a rear loop of 2 pieces of 1inch, 90 degree bent tubes i bought of ebay.
  • Welded the rear loop in place, and created an aluminium seat pan.

Then i decided to go and "Nitro Mors" all the paint and filler of the tank (stupid idea) to get a raw metal tank. It didn't go quite as well as i had hoped, so now i'm not sure what to do with the damn thing.
I have a spare tank, so i can slap the old black one on an ride it until the current one is ready.
Suggetions on the tank "look" is welcome!

Currently im considering grinding the surface smooth and giving it a clear coat, so all the different paint layers can be seen, good idea no?

Anyway. Heres how it looks as i'm typing this.

The engine should be ready to pop back in tomorrow or the day after.
The exhaust is getting some titanium colored heat wrap.
The seat pan is getting som cellular-rubber-foam for now, until a leather one is made.
small indicators and cat-eye taillight and thats about it.

Thats all for now, let me know what you think!

Hey another Zuk, cool!

Looking good so far...

Re: Suzuki GS750 - Street Tracker / Brat / Rat / Cafe-Something build

Thanks a lot.

Here's a bit of an update.

Finished the engine the day before yesterday and dropped it back in.
Unfortunately i had misplaced the new oil filter so i couldn't start it up, because of the stupid easter holidays i couldn't go out and buy a new one before today.

Anyway, today i hooked everything up to the battery, added the new oilfilter+oil, timed the ignition, put on the black tank, cleaned the carbs and gave it a go. It fired right up after a couple of cycles and it sounds very healthy.

I also began heatwrapping the exhaust, but i ran out of wrap on the last pipe :( so i'll have to order some more before thats done.

I'm also repainting the Calipers, front mastercylinder and clutch grip, i'll post pics once their mounted again.

Here's a couple of picstures of me progress so far.

So now i have to figure out a good way to mount the seat pan, any suggestions is welcome!

Got some 30mm Cellular Rubber for the seat.

Delivered my spare Gas Tank at the painters to be sandblasted, and have it clear lacquered, i'll post pictures once its back in my hands.

I also ordered the following of ebay.
Beston Grips (Black)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390405551088

More Heat Wrap for the exhaust
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200731610483

A Thread repair kit to fix the front right brake caliper with a helicoil.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290686868133

And some knockoff Tank Emblems
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290694556757

I only really need the the thread repair kit to get it road worthy, the other stuff is only cosmetics.
Hopefully it will arrive within the next couple of days so i can complete the bike next week, -complete for this season that is.

As i mentioned earlier i had a spare fueltank out for a respray.
It was a spare tank i bought for 300DKK / 50$, I had no idea how it looked underneath all the paint and padding.
I had i clear coated (clear powdercoated) directly after sandblasting, so I actually didn't know how it would turn out.

Anyway! Now its back and its looking pretty tough, please excuse the badly lit iphone pics.

The bike is almost ready for this season, but I had a small problem with the fuel pump and one of the carbs, that resultet in it drowning on the third cylinder. I ordered a carb and petcock -rebuild kits and will probably have it running great in a couple of days.

I'll shoot some better pictures of the complete bike when the weather clears up.

Thanks Marla, hope to see your build sometime.

Thank you, i really like your City Scrambler project as well.

Got the rubber from my brother in law who works at DAFA (www.dafa-as.com ) and was able to get a piece that had been cut of in production.
It's really nice to work with, just used a razorblade and some sandpaper to give it a really nice and round finish.
It comes in all kind of dimensions and hardness.

I just drove the bike home tonight and its dark outside now.
I'll snap som more pictures of the seat, tank, and the over bike tomorrow.

Thanks Ray.

Snapped some more crappy phone pictures today, heres a couple of them.

This is pretty much how the bike will look like, but theres a couple of things i'm gonna be doing over the summer.

This Summer
  • New brakepads for the rear caliper (Bought, just needs to be installed)
  • New Battery and check of charging system.
  • New Clip-ons (the cheap adjustable i bought of fleebay isnt worth a dime)
  • Shorten and mount rear mudguard
  • Fabricate new front fender.
  • New Tires, Dunlop K70 (Rear at first)

Next Winter
  • New battery box and position
  • Respoke the wheels
  • Frame Respray
  • New Seat with leather cover

Ohh yes... its going to need a name, any suggestions?

Can you tell me the changes to the carbs?
I'm looking to do something close to yours...
