Finished my last project and now time to start a new one. Picked up the GS750 stupid cheap running with a title, so cafe time.
After scrolling through a lot of info on how to proceed I still see even for cafe bikes the gsxr is the go to for a mash up. Was in luck and found a running complete bike no paperwork for cheap.
Even did some digging and found a used, in good condition 4-1 Vance&Hines exhaust.
Anyone with any suggestions or info on what to look for or pay attention to is definitely more then welcome to say so! All feedback is appreciated.

watching this
i have one that is fugly as all get out i bought to use to
protoype a new carb kit and ignition system have that about done
now need some inspiration as to what to do with the bike to make it look good

Strip te K&Q seat, strip all down to the pan, and you have a pan that can be modified to your ideas, then build up carpet padding (rebond) and shape with an electric carving knife. Glue layers with 3M 80 spray adhesive (Home Depot).

You have any pics of the process from when you did it? Sounds like a good idea using the pan that’s already there

I have some from the cafe-style seat for the Hunley. For it, I had found a fiberglass seat pan on ebay for $30, but it could have been done with a K&Q - just change to pop-rivets for mounting the cover.

The "hump" is just built-up on a heavy foam block. Use 3M 80 spray adhesive to bond all and an electric carving knife (NOT hers!) for cutting/shaping. Often you can find tear-out or scrap padding for free.

I bought the vinyl online and had an upholsterer sew it, but wish I'd done it myself.

Pidjones, nice pics! I think It came out very nice! Right now, I’m trying to figure out what to use for a steering stem. I’m going to put the gsxr from on, and know there’s going to be a hurtle there. Anyone have a suggestion? Without having one custom made. I’d think I could use a stem out of another older bike right?

I updated in my new member post on accident so here’s my update for this thread. I had got the gsxr stripped down and the parts I want kept. That was the fun part lol. All Balls Bearing has a kit to purchase for a front end swap which I found out by Friday a YouTube video I had watched.

Measured the neck length from the gsxr to the gs and they were very close, so the kit from AllBalls worked fantastic. Was time to get the gs on the lift and take all of that heavy junk off it. After a few short hours, the front swap was done for mock up purpose. I installed the 4-1 to see where the collector was as far as ground clearance. A bit lower then I’d hoped for, soooo it was time to hit up the guys at Extreme Creations. Have a fork tube extension kit coming, to get some height back. If anyone hasn’t heard of these guys, they are a must if you need to get height back. I’ve used their product on my swap on my vmax and their products are fantastic.

When the extensions are in, and more progress is made, I’ll add more pics.

Nice looking parts. Are they 50mm or 75mm and how long were the fork legs (before and after)? I have a couple of pairs of GT750 CG1100 and GSXR/TL forks and it looks like they would be 40mm short compared to GT forks and >50 with GS1100 forks going to TL or GSXR.

They are 75mm. Believe I was lacking 4” and could settle with the loss of the difference. I can get you the exact dimensions sometime soon. I have all of my notes and sketches with the project at the garage so off hand I can’t give you the exact. I lost a little going from the stock wheel to the sport bike wheel, and the fork tubes were a little shorter as well. I used these parts for a different build and liked the results so took that same approach this time as well.

Well, I’m not to sure what your application would need or if you could settle with a little height loss. Me being shorter isn’t much of an argument to have a lower sitting bike.

I have GSXR/TL fork on a coupe of project bikes and interestingly enough they are the same length as the Showa forks on my ST3 Ducati.

On the GT750, they do drop the front end a bit too much and you are right that a 120/70-17 (23.6" diameter) front tire has a different rolling radius that the OEM 90/90 -19 which is 25.4" diameter, so that's around 24mm smaller in diameter. I was interested to hear what the difference in Fork length was in your case.

how safe are those extenders to run? There been any testing on this? Interesting idea.
I've been running them on a BMW airhead for the last three years with a TL1000r front end. Mine are one off custom made, but essentially the same design.

I’ll get you measurements this weekend, with some pics. Can’t put the fork completely together yet, still waiting on the new dust and fork seals.

Well, to give you an idea of how safe they are, here’s my first build I used them on. This bike sees triple digits often and she’s heavy. They’ve held up well in my honest opinion.
