SV650 Castle nut

Been Around the Block
I need to remove the triple tree from an SV650 and need a castle nut wrench to remove the damn thing. Unfortunately the real deal is going to cost me allot more than I have. I can afford a castle nut wrench which is cheap but wont work as its recessed. I can construct one but that in itself is a headache and I doubt if I can do it properly without the castle nut out so I can offer it up.

So I'm wondering if any of you fine people have a suggestion? Another option is if someone has one may I borrow it? I would pay for shipping and a 6 pack!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I took a deep socket long enough to reach and the proper size, then went at it with a dremel to make my own. Takes time, but only cost about 20 bucks and about an hour. Make sure you file those burrs off so you don't scratch that soft aluminum nut. Doesn't hurt to pad it with some tape either. I had a spare nut to mark the socket for grinding, not sure if you can do so in situ.

I have to somehow get the reverse profile of the slots with the damn thing in there. A new castle nut is about 10$ so I'm thinking of ordering one to use as a pattern, making the tool and then removing the damn nut. I have thought of using drifts but I would rather not run the risk of screwing it up.

A good sharpie followed by trial and error might work well.

I've also taken that same style nut off of my kz650 with the blunt end of a punch and a hammer. That didn't mar the nut too much, only cosmetic.
Here's a pic of the tool I made for the 2nd gen SV. This is a 1-1/4" deep socket from ace hardware.

I hear ya, I've used it in a pinch, and if you have foam or some other soft thing on the jaws, it doesn't seem to cause any marring. Maybe a good rag or two? I usually make a tool Like alberto has above.

Yea. I'm just gonna man up, grab more tools than I need and get the bastard off. I'm sure if all else fails my leatherman will do the trick somehow.

But when I do I'm making a damn tool!

Got a pic? Sounds like a pin-wrench might work but I don't know how tight this nut is.
