t500 engine swap

Coast to Coast
So basically i have a nice old 72 Suzuki t500 that I've striped down to the bare frame and primed. i have all the parts to rebuild it, but the frame and electrical sat in our barn for the last 30 years at least, and the engine in my grandparents basement for the same time. while i could probably find all the parts to rebuild the original engine, I doubt it would be cost effective. So i would be looking to drop in new powerplant, any ideas? anybody ever tried anything like this?

The thing im worried about is if the front sprocket lines up with the rear sprocket, without throwing the engine off o one side slightly...
i'll have to look in to it, but thanks for the suggestion, Quebec is the shits when it comes to finding old bikes though :(

Its a two stroke. As long as there is no damage to the pistons or cylinder, just rebuild it. Biggest expense would be a crank rebuild (if needed). Take your time and keep it stock. Should only cost a couple hundred to get it running.

Sticking another motor in place of that badass 500 would be a crime and a waste of a killer chassis.

Yeah, I'd assume you'll spend as much fitting another motor as you would rebuilding the motor. Plus it's a fuckin Titan, it's worth the time and a few extra $$ if that's what it comes down to, though I doubt it would.

The only time that you make a swap like this is to replace a 4 stroke WITH a 2 stroke. Never the other way around.

it needs an entire tranny rebuild
all new electrical
and probably all the bearings down there as well
unless i can get by with a broken tooth on 2nd and 3rd gear...
i would love to keep the same engine but like i said, finding anything to do with old bike near quebec is almost impossible :-\

Ive done a t500 swap it not real eazy the motor is worth saving the parts are out there and unlike 90% of the 70's bikes that grace the.pages of this site the titan is worth money out side the cafe racer world im looking for a rear grad bar and a seat pan pm me if you got one mabie i can help you get money for parts

i guess i'll just keep waiting around and looking for cheap parts... yay student budget...
i suppose all i really need are gaskets and trans, plus a few wires :p
it (engine) can sit there in an oil bath until then...

as for the seat pan, all it is is a padded and upholstered piece of plywood with brackets bolted to it hahaha real safe
