Tachometer installation

I used to dabble with changing car computers. i once hooked up a speedo feed to my car replacement computer and found the pulse rate from spedo was incorrect when i got halfway around the block and the speed limiter on the new computer cut in at 60 kmh . it thought i was doing 200kph. as soon as i slowed a bit motor ran again... made for a fun afternoon figuring out how to modify it for correct pulse rate.. that is what you get when you put a chevy part into a turbo volvo.

so it is a matter of trying different sensor point setting of finding out the correct pulse rate ?

My only experience involving Koso instruments included a detailed instruction sheet regarding calibration.

Did yours have one of these?

it did come with a instruction manual and it explains how to get around in setting and how to use the button to set it but it does not tell what Sensor Points are nor how to define sensor points...

Ok, mystery solved.

It is quite a useful info, for every turn of the speedo pickup (the metal insert inside) with every full revolution is set to be, so 06P for every turn, 12P if it turns twice. Going to set it at 12P.

Hi All,
Wiring in my rev’ counter and need help.

Lighting not needed so it’s just the pulse wiring.
The description for the wires from the unit also mentioned on the thread is as follows. .

Black line lock positive.(B)
Green line lock negative.(G)
Black with yellow trace (says yellow in description).(B/Y)

The (B/Y) I have piggybacked to the push on connector on the coil, which is also B/Y on my bike.
The (G) I have added to the original earth connection on the coil.

Here is where I am undecided.............I am assuming the (B) wire needs an ignition fed connection anywhere on the bike so that it only works when the engine is running. Am I correct?

I have gathered this information from going over the thread so assume my thinking is correct, I just need convincing.

Thanks.

I used the positive from my lights for the tachometer.
Since it's mandatory here to drive with your lights on, and I've removed my idiot lights, I know my lights are on by looking at my tacho :)

Thanks for that.
I've now wired it up and although it's a bit slow, it works and I'm happy. I used the wire that used to connect to the brake light switch on the lever perch (no lights at all on my project) for the ignition fed supply.
