Tank Bodywork filling in badge.

What is the best way to go about filling in the holes left from removing the tank badges?
I removed the badges and now just have the metal attachment piece and the indent in the tank.

I didn't think that filling in such a large hole with bondo would be a good idea.
Should I use some JB weld to fill the gaps and then cover with bondo? Should I cut off the attachment bar or leave it there and just fill around it?
I've never done body work before.

bondo will be just fine. thats not that big of an area and thats what Bonda was made for.

Be sure to grind the paint off first so it will stick properly....

make sure to do a thin layer, sand in between, clean up, and repeat until it's built up enough to do your final sanding. Use a block and not your hands only. Use good lighting, spray primer to see and inconsistencies, sand and repeat if necessary. It's really easy to do that location.
