**The locO leoN XS650 MANX Cafe Racer- Team Build**

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

my frame is basicly a XS frame... i got some GSXR rear sets, took them apart and swapped sides with the supports, then shaved them to fit... this is how i did that if that will help you at all?
they still need to be shaved some more and powdered but it give you the idea

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

Doesn't help me unfortunately. The Omars brackets mount on the same two studs as the original front footpegs. It's just that they moved those studs with the frame redesign in 1973.

You can see the big aluminum plates here on Ian's vintage racer (beautiful bike).

The rear set brackets Noel has will only work on 1973+ XS650 frames. I have the same problem with my 1972 frame and my Omars rear set brackets. I have to get new ones made.

So Noel, let's work on getting two sets of brackets made up for our frames. The kickstart lever will need to be bent to clear your footpegs. My pegs fold, but even with that I'm not convinced my kick will clear the pegs.

Hey.. Thats a freakin great idea Joe....
Im gonna go down to the shop to see if that set up might work... Im just wondering if the controls will clear my pipes with the upsweep...

But Tim, Ur right. Lets look at making up a set. I know it will be no problem getting them made. Im sure it will cost us pennies. The problem is just the design/shape of brackets... If you can come up with the design that will work for both of us, I can get them made up!!..

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

Will do - I have a cardboard template already - just need to reconfirm the stud spacing/diameter.

Thats perfect.
Even if they wont clear my exhuast, I"ll make a different shape for my bike based on the stud spacing of your cardboard template!!...

Hmmm.. Lets compare...

Heres the right side:

Looks the same to me....

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

Yep - they look exactly the same. Measure the footpeg mounting bolts however and you'll find a difference (unless I'm wrong and it was 1974 they modified the frame, but I was pretty sure it was 1973).

ya know, that would explain whythere seems to be only about 5-8 mm difference between the holes.
I know that if I drilled out both holes to be a bit bigger it would fit... the only problem is that the kick starter wont clear the brake pedal with that design...

Well.. Im gonna try one last thing that Roustabout has suggested. If that doesnt work then the brackets are up for grabs...
I also have a spare perfect xs tank that was treated inside going up for sale soon!!..

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

No bracket will solve the kickstarter problem, unless it takes the footpeg back far enough to clear it. At that point you may as well mount right on the rear footpeg mounts (which I removed).

yeah.. I know...
I cant mount it on the pass peg since the pipes start to angle right in front of it.. infact its used to hold the bracket that holds the pipes up...
I do believe that we will have to completely redo the brackets...

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

Ok.. just back from the garage...
There is no way that these brackets & rearset combo will work on my bike due to the exhaust angle and kickstart clearance.
No matter how I position them, or drill out new holes in the frame.

IMG_1198.jpg

In addition to that, the angle of the exhaust, (the muffler turns-up infront of the passenger pegs), that is prohibiting me from mounting them on the pass pegs, (like on my cb550 & cb450).

So, no rearsets for this bike... :(
I'm gonna put these brackets, pegs, rods & rod ends up for grabs as an entire package...

Some shots just before we tucked it in for the winter...

Thanks man..
There is a bracket that goes from the pass peg mount to the muffler.
;D

Re: **The locO leoN XS650 - Team Build**

that looks great. tank is awesome. fr brake, both fenders w/braces are very period. seat works. nice job. the pipes are growin on me. probly nicer in real life. bring it to Mid-Ohio ;) the killer part is how frikkin fast you finished it. well done! my input sure not needed here, but what do you think about getting the guages angled back to yer face a tad?
