I dont know why but I really like some of the bikes coming out of icon1000...
Dont get me wrong, I really like the DCC stuff and wrenchmonkees but this is very unique and against the grain. Not sure if they are just a retailer or actually build the occasional bike but its pretty sweet.
Appears I have been Swiveled!!! I feel Honored....
"Do you know all of Icons crappy bgrade builds are just to advertise their crappy products that are ALL made in China?
The VF1000R was a heavy lethal bit of junk in back the day and fitting dirt tires to it is some kind of mental illness.A bike with enough horsepower to do 180mph should actually have tires, not something an advertising graduate cooked up to sell slave shop boots or something.Mad Max style is decades old now:create something new that is your own."
While this kind of PM doesnt personally bother me I wanted to note one thing from this message... "Mad Max style is decades old now:create something new that is your own." I agree mad max has been done...grunge has been done, apocalypse has been done...What makes these "B-grade" builds so inspiring is that they are willing to slap a pair of dirt tyres on a lethal bit of 180 mph junk, ad a cb radio and some pyle off road headlights and use it to sell a brand! Genius! I applaud the notion. I never said this was a great cafe, I never said I would ride it! What I said was I appreciated the uniqueness and let me add boldness. Keep on using sweet designs to sell your china crap! I will continue to pull inspiration from your work! And Swivel...please no more PM's...if you have something to say please say it here! Thanks
as I see that bike being ridden fairly regularly (I live one block from the icon design HQ) and have seen the garage where the "advertising graduates" are building the bikes themselves I find the resentment towards the bikes they make is childish and naieve.
ti frame, air cooled ducati motor. it is the guy in charge at icons unapolagetic "track beater". its light as shit and with a built DS1000 motor its faster than god.
one thing ive seen from those guys is that they dont really care about what anyone thinks about the builds. they build what they like, they RIDE THEM and if you like it then cool, if not than move along.
poor swivel, must not be able to find the "respond" button in the thread and instead can only post PM's. allow me to assist you sir;
"Pretty" "Bloody" "Simple"
"to sell sell Chinese imports they show poorly designed bikes as advertisements merely to make money. They may encourage young guys who emulate such nonsense maybe to build similar dangerous crap and it may injure or kill them and that is sad.In some quarters it would be called"corporate responsibility issues".Good luck to them selling Chinese merch at outrageous margins, but their ethics can be called into question IMHO."
Ti SD?
"god what a waste of of cash and effort.Any lap times or is it just to impress somebody as a "radical design exercise"?It's like a casino foyer chopper that goes around corners or something. The bikes is an answer to a non-existant question.Has it ever been in a race or are the"race numbers"just to impress some unit out there in marketing land"
poorly designed bikes? because it has DS tires and some superflous "roll cage" elements? ever think that maybe the bike is being used in an on and off road capacity? that those tires might be correct for the way the bike is being used?
I would think not, but then you also miss the point of a bare bones track bike (that happens to be made of some very tasty bones). its a track bike, not a race bike. you can appreciate the difference yes?
I will repeat the request posted above; no more PMs please, a simple response in the thread would be far more suitable.
It looks like a guy had a bike. Somebody gave it to him or he got a really good deal on it. Or he moved. Whatever. The bike was not suited for what he needed it to do. So, he rewired it. Made it capable. He made it his own. Wether it is just for show or is actually used as intended I don't really care.
As an advertising strategist and also having a degree in art history I can appreciate a clever marketing strategy. And I also realize that BASICALLY ANYTHING post modern is a copy of something. Define original...define unique...it does make me happy knowing that they actually build and ride these creations. I take it back....I WOULD ride that bike! Once!
Thanks for posting the bike. It kind of looks like a Dakar rat bike, I really like it. I owned a VF1000R a couple decades ago. That was before I knew how to fix bikes. I almost died on it a couple times and I couldn't fix some of it's problems so I was happy to sell it. These days I'd like to own another one because the bike was such a hoot.

dangerous motorcycle engineering and mercenary marketing now is viewed in some corners as "unique"or "bold".
Is that why you don't ride, Swivel; you see motorcycles as dangerous? It's funny that you tell GIJoe to "create something new that is your own". We'd all like to see if you're capable of creating anything other than arguments.
