The Most Epic CB 500 EVER!

My issue is the lack of respect for others and I don't see how being a dick helps anything. I know the ones you're talking about, i get it here locally all the time. But,I don't say "you fucking dumbass you don't blah,blah,blah,...blah. Because,i wouldn't listen to it either. But.i also know the young ones who actually care, listen, and want to learn. Which is the future for what we all love and without them the old bikes will eventually dissapear.

I never called him a dumbass.

He asked about performance. I gave him a benchmark to shoot for, that had well laid out plans, ideas and implementations.

He comes back with a picture of a shiny shitbucket that I guarantee performs worse than stock and said he wanted to emulate it. I gave my opinion and left.

Except they don't want to learn...

They ask for opinions and knowledge from people with experience, and when it doesn't match whatever scene-driven image they have in their mind, discount it and move forward with something that ignores the fundamentals of what a motorcycle is.

You can't possibly be surprised when people don't take your advice considering how you present it to them.

Did you read the thread? Or just the part where I called a bike a piece of shit in terms of being a motorcycle?

You don't know that. You are basing this on some previous example of maybe a couple of people ignoring some advice.

I got into the 'cafe' scene by googling exactly that. Id been riding motocross since I was young, and wanted something different. I bought a honda CB like everyone else.

Did I plough hundreds of pounds into the motor before changing anything aesthetically? No.

Did I ignore all advice given? No

I learnt things, I researched things, I listened to the more experienced builders. I love working on vintage bikes, and that's not gonna change. Yet I guarantee you would refer to me as a hipster if you saw me in person. Not everyone is the same.

For starters I am drunk. Secondly I feel the exact same way. I grew up riding for sure, I got my first bike the day I learned how to ride a bicycle. It was a PW50 with training wheels on it. Later my dad had me in a set of hand-me-down leathers trying to knee drag as soon as my toes could reach the ground on our Yamaha YSR-50's and since my whole family is short I was about 10. Then my mom got remarried and we moved. 10 years later my hipster (and I mean that in the kindest most best friend kind of way) best friend got a CL350 and let me ride it. A little bit after he got it running (by taking it to a shop) it got its carbs clogged up and it stopped running and he sold it. I wish I had been willing to pay more for his bike but instead I was cheap and wanted something running. Now I have the most ghetto Nighthawk450 Cafe build basically ever but I love it. I am broke right now but am trying to get the funds for my next project and am thinking CX500 because it is weird and from what I have seen and read a very fun after mods bike. My dad thinks I should just get a 8-10 year old modern sport bike but that is not where my passion is. I do plan on picking up a track readied AR-80 with made out of 5+ bikes that make it water cooled, 105CC and can fit standard racing slicks from his house for my "fun" rides out to the canyon as soon as I get it road readied which in AZ is a head light, tail, light, break light, a mirror, and a horn.

If you go the 10 year old sport bike, get a 954RR.

I love mine. But, I love the vintage equally.

Is there an actual motorcycle being worked on her anywhere? Please post a picture of your bike so we can see it. For what it's worth and just my opinion which doesn't mean jack shit to you probably, but why don't you get the old Honda running and riding in it's stock form first and then go ahead and modify it. If you can make it work like it was designed to work when it rolled off the the Honda factory line, then you are a damn good mechanic and can then, and only then, begin to work on improving what Mr. Fucking Honda built for you.

If there is we better muck this stall out before you start working, it's pretty deep in here

Yea, I'm done with this thread.

Some of you answered the questions I asked and I'm very grateful you guys did. You know who you are and I appreciate the responses you knew I was looking for; they were helpful in my endeavor.

I came looking for advice and found a little in the mix of a bs. Here's what I learned:

1) Not much about motorcycles.
2) Everyone hates a hipster yet doesn't understand really why, they just hate them...A LOT. Oh, and apparently everyone is a hipster.
3) Don't you dare post something you find pleasing to look at--odds are it's a piece of shit and you will immediately be judged for it.
4) If it's not "safe" or has any sort of aesthetic value...it's a piece of shit.
5) It is in fact, rare to meet the nicest people on a Honda.

Yes, I WAS going for a hybrid of looks and performance. I made that very clear...I thought. God forbid I want a motorcycle that looks rad and performs like a champ...apparently that is impossible, and modern builds are total blasphemous-hipster-bullshit around here. It seems you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some really tight pants to try on, a fix gear bicycle to ride, a foreign car to drive, some communist literature to read, and a penis to stick in an art school girl... all before I get back to my cubical on Monday.

Damn it, that's all true. 8)

Nice one, great recap, I think you summed it up there perfectly.

Not bad for a hipster :) Just kidding.

Haha! ;)

Fuck! I just sat here with a few rye and gingers and read through that entire thing! That was entertaining! 8)

It would seem there are a lot of people secretly in love with hipsters. More than usual.

Heaven forbid a kid asks for information/advice and some feel the need to "school them" the way they do. There are far better ways of delivering a message if that's the one you want to deliver.

Fuck sakes.......

Time to mix another.
