Things I do while the hubby is away

Found a tank that looks exactly like the one I have on the bike, that I turned into the cowl. I was thinking about making it shorter in height so that it will sit low more like a flat tracker cowl. But then I want to keep as much as possible because even the faded paint matches which I thinks kinda cool. So any suggestions would be cool, while I sit and stare at it.

from an aesthetic point it would look better if the height of the tail and angle lined up with a line extended from the tank top back, so the top of the tail front is lower then the tank back.
but i love the idea and it does look good matching the tank +1

Love the pinstriping work you do. Welcome to the site - might have to send you my KA mixer.

On the seat, if you want the paint to remain and match, then you gotta leave it full height. It looks OK to me now, but there may be a logical place to cut it. It would still look fine if the paint lines didn't match up - say cutting off the solid black section from the seat. A bum stop doesn't need to be huge, but a decent size allows for things like hiding batteries etc.

Thanks Tim, pinstriping is a hobby of mine, that also brings in some extra cash ;)

So, I'm going to slam cowl. I would love to hide the battery, and keep the paint but you guys are right, there needs to be a better flow from the tank to the cowl.

i hope you dont mind but i thought i would shop the tail for you to give you ideas about sizes and angles.
the top is notmal, then same size rotated, then smaller versions.

I really like the third picture, however that would be alot of work to chop it down like that. I took the same Idea with my seat and used a tank. I didn't really size it down either and it still turned out looking very well. Go with your gut, you can always cut her apart later

I had the same idea for my XS. I ended up making my own from 'glass that has roughly the same profile as that 3rd 'shopped pic.

I, in no means want to detract you from making your own, but FWIW, I will be producing a handful for other DTT'ers. I did end up taking about 1.5" out of the centerline of the tank dimensions to fit the frame better.

BTW, welcome! Nice pinstriping!

WOw, thanks for spending time on photo editing! That's so helpful, I like the 3rd picture also. Going to go do that right now!

Hurricane, I love what you did with your bump! I tried the fiberglass route but er...got lost in the beginning with cutting the foam mold. If this doesn't go well for me, I might have to beg you to make one for me also ;D I also like how you taped off where you might cut, simple things like that are so helpful.

This is such a great forum! :-*

check it out, i think you can pull off something like this.

That's pretty much what I'm trying to cook up, thanks for the inspiration! I'm putting the same Nissin calipers on too!

Off the subject, but does anyone know what kind of exhaust that is?

Welcome to DTT ! love where your heading with the set/tail set up . hurrican7 is making a really nice seat if you havent seen it. i went the lazy way i guess with mine but did end up with something close to what your doin .....

The exhaust is an in-house fabrication, made from sheet metal with some sound deafening material .. I have emailed WM about that particular bike, though it was about the clean handlebars mostly.
The seat can be ordered on their website and the exhaust (or something looking a lot like it) can be ordered too.

but if you have any questions about any of their bikes, they are incredibly helpful and more than willing to answer those questions :)

Looks perfect and the lines of the light paint line up nicely.

The exhaust is just a small reverse cone megaphone on the right header. I can't see your silencer clearly but it looks like all you need is a different one if you like the Wrenchmonkee's look.

I've got a rubber cap on the positive terminal of the battery.

You're thinking of relocating the battery anyway, right?
