This old gray mare aint like she used to be...

I've had this old girl well north of the ton since I rescued her from an snow bank last December here in Maine.

We've been through brake rebilds, wiring harness melt downs, and tappet nuts lost above the head -- spun off when with a missed shift on a highway entry ramp. Despite these periods of "rest and rejuvination" I managed to flogg her through 2500 miles last riding season, though I only live 5 miles from work and don't ride on weekends...

I love the bike, just not her old gray mare looks so this winter she's getting a tear down for a caffinated future. I'm in the process of completely stripping her and making a new solo seat.

I've got old school cafe bars on her and these cool old rear sets which bolt right on...

I have 11" rear shocks that I'll be putting on, finned alternator, clutch and points covers and a cool 8" big ass headlight.

The frame will be red, swingarm silver, fork lowers silver, tank - rear cowl - sidecovers in black with a silver super sport racing stripe.

I'm looking forward to painting her, and putting her back together and tearing up the macadam.

Those are RAASK pegs/levers, but I think the brackets are custom. Look like multiple peices of steel sandwiched together. RAASK brackets were all cast to my knowledge.

Nice that another old bike is getting fixed up. Those brackets should be pretty strong as it appears they are laminated steel plates, but don't drop it on those pegs/levers. Those things will snap like a twig and will be hard to replace($$).
I'm using cast KZ 550 rear passenger brackets for rear set brackets on my build, but if I break them I have spares and they are a dime a dozen.

Looks like the old girl is coming along!

I'll definitely keep a close eye on your progress. I'm in the process of tearing down my CB750F right now as well. I'd like to find a set of old Raask rearsets, but they seem pretty hard to come by.

Are you going to run the stock chrome front fender, or do you have plans for that as well?

Very nice...
I love my cb750f...
Those rearsets by the way are Raask. I have the exact set for my cb450 and the look identical, only except for the nut & bolt holding the foot peg into the holder joint on the "brake" side.

Looks great!!.. I cant wait to see the bike done...

Thanks for the encouragement, it's needed to stave off the snow-drift blues.

The brackets for the rearsets seem like laminated plastic of some kind. They're really solid and light weight I'll clean and paint them and run them till they fall off, as that's my plan with the bike anyway.

I'm still undecided about my front fender. I'll probably run with it on but bob it at both ends and leave it chrome... I can't wait for it to warm up around here so I can get some painting done.

I just picked up a spare motor for my 76 CB750K tourer so I may dig into that.

I'll post progress when I make it. Finishing the seat is a priority.

Cheers~!

well north of the ton? Is 120 well north? Thats about where my 750F would max out.

Watch out with those RAASK rear sets. A buddy mounted a set on his 750 and immediately broke off the brake lever the first time he used the kickstarter.

I guess that seems to be a common problem.

I will vouch for the speed of that ugly beast. I had the pleasure of riding with Ben(Uncrash) last year up to Owl's Head Vintage bike meet. His F flat out spanked my 75 CB750K (with a whopping 6k miles at the time).. It was waaay fast. I cant wait to see how good it goes all lightened and lowered..
