Timing (way) off?

Put your wrench on the nut and turn the motor over, watch your 1/4 point. When it gets to its widest opening stop and set the gap. Ignore the timing marks for now.
Once your gap is set, THEN look at the timing marks and turn the points plate until the points open exactly at the timing mark and your test light comes on.

This is exactly what I was just about to ask for. Thanks. Damn night shift is keeping me from working when I get home...I don't think the neighborhood wants to hear my bike at 3:00 am :(

SHE RUNS!!!!! Thanks for all the help guys! I set the gap per the last layman-terms suggested and then did the timing via test light and she start instantly. I am so stoked. I hooked up the strobe, the time was spot on for 2/3 and a smidgen off for 1/4 so I made the small adjustment while running. This is so awesome. Thanks again!

Try and get the timing as close as you can. It's important stuff.

Usually the process is that you set one side (might be 1 and 4? Check manual) to be the side you time by rotating the points plate. The other side you fine tune by adjusting the gap. If you can't get the timing spot on while maintaining the specs on the point gap (usually something like .11" to .18" or something like that) then it might be time for new points.

A bigger gap advances the timing and a smaller one retards it.

That's true of the 360. The CB500f has a separate timing plate for the second set of points. So does the CB400f. Not sure about the CB350f.
