Tire/Rim HELP!

Been Around the Block
ok i have a 78cb750 f and i have disc brakes in the rear in the front and would like to swap out my comstars for spoked rims with drum brakes to give it an older look.Would i have to completely change the brakes from drum to wire? How would i go about this and would it be cheap and if that swap is to expensive then would i be able to set them up with the spoked rims. Sorry im a newb. Heres is my bike with the comstars

honestly i got the money to make it work but i just dont like the comstars and the bike was to good of a deal to pass up and was in great condition and the engine and carbs were both just rebuilt. I spent months just looking for a decent bike priced this great and really dont want the hassel of looking all over again and stressing out over it . If i want to get spoked rims how can i make this happen and im willing to keep the disc brakes . bike will look old school but with new technology

well my bike is a super sport obv but there is no way to have spoked rims with disc brakes? Im assuming i would have to find a set front an rear of rims that were spokes and have the set up to sit on disc brakes for a 78cb750? Or did they not even have spoke rims for this bike? I could care less about the disc brakes and the disk being there because i might be wrong but couldnt i just change the size of the disc so it would be smaller?

If you are keen to throw money at the thing, find a F1 rear spoked wheel and see if it bolts straight in.Good spoked wheels COST REAL MONEY.The old wheels in the pics are not the ones to go for, they are more hassle than they are worth, honestly.Fitting a different front spoke wheel that uses the OEM twin discs is not a major hassle, but try to find an old F1 rear first to begin the process. You may be able to use the old spoke front wheel hub to lace another rim to,your OEM discs may well fit that hub.If you fit aftermarket rims like ones from Buchanans you could get very nice ally ones,a stock sized front and a slightly wider rear to run a tire the next size up from stock.
alright thanks swivel ill start looking on ebay right now and i figure if i find some spokes i can end up keeping my comstars and throw them back on the future if i plan to sell it or just trade them on craigslist or see if i can get some decent $ for them.

the front wheel is easy. just match up the rotors. if they are both the same 4 bolt pattern, they should bolt right on.

on my kz, that other side of the front wheel comes off for the extra rotor

Wow you really want those spoked wheels huh ??? lol.
Just free your mind for a second and take a look at what others have done to the Comstars, its your choice of course but this will be your cheaper option

If you are determined though here is a link to converting Comstars to spokes

yah i love my spoked rims comstars look alright but im willing to throw several bills at the rims to get it to work out. And my understanding of what your saying is i should just be able to find an f1 (k model) cb750 preferably a 78 because the front would be the same size rim and it should just slip on but what about the back. I would have to get it drilled for that correct and have to aslo find a rear f1 (78 750 k ) rim as well? correct?

I think for now this week i will just get them powdercoated and next week there is a big swapmeet and im hoping i can find a matching set of rims from an f1 cb750

would this rear work? I know its an drum but you guys are saying i should be able to get it drilled and get it to work out?

and this is an acutall set. Im thinking this is the route to go? what do yall think

Front dual disks with spokes are easy as long as you can measure and mix and match and get parts machined. My GT750 Suzuki came with twin disks and I changed those to different disks, different rim and different calipers. For me that wasn't too hard, but if you want a drum on teh front, you will either have to spend 2000 for a decent drum to stop that bike or you will simply sail into the back/side/front of something trying to slow it down.

There's a touch of hyperbole there, but you get my drift.

The other thing to think about is that your bike is clean and runs and almost any significant modification is likely to take it off the road and probably make a bit of a mess to frame paint etc.

It's a nice clean bike, the sun is out early this year. Just enjoy riding it and learning its foibles and develop a relationship with it. Work out the things you really like, the things you must change and the things that you can live with. Sometimes we forget that bikes are for riding, not for wrenching on. that can wait until the winter. :)

Wish i could wait to winter but im going to be gone almost for a yr and only got 4 months to ride the bike and do what i want to before i ship it out to texas where ill be at tech school and will be able to ride it on the weekends and wont have the time of day to work on it or have the nesscary tools to work on it but the front dual disc wont just slip on? and no i want to keep the dual now since the bike is pretty heavy and has some good power to it. I think im better off just going this route with the ebay link below. The rims in my opinion are way over price and are not even in great condition and the guy wants to much $ but im hoping i can find somehthing like this at a swap meet so i dont have to do the work of drilling and making it all work out

Yah that seat i think will work out great but i think those matching set of rims are a lil overpriced and i would have to pay an extra 100 for them to be shipped then like another 300 for it to be sandblasted and powder coated. So when im all said and done its probably going to cost 600+ out the door

You don't blast and powdercoat spoke wheels, its not a a beaners Crown Victoria. Those Ebay ally rims would polish up great on the sides by hand.

lol im saying id powder coat them if i couldnt get the rust out. Shit if i could get them all polished out i aint touching those rims with paint. Im really debating about these rims right now because i dont think ill find a matching set like this at a swap meet

Something like this seat line would suit the F2 tank and tail piece.Don't go to a shop for the wheels, you should be able to do the stuff yourself with half a brain and 1/3rd the cash. Those old F1 wheels on Ebay could be a good start,if they don't work throw them back at the postman elves. Those ally F1 wheels on Ebay seem like a bargain and cheap to me,honestly. You do need the F1 sprocket carrier and cush drive stuff for those wheels, where are they, has the guy got them?

we are talking about these rims right the set ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/270936946711?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_4616wt_984 and yah im shoping for seats right now. They are all the way in damn florida and its going to cost 100$ to ship -____- ... So by the time its all done and said it will cost 300$ for the rims and i dont think ill be able to get the rust off the spokes so ill probabaly just blast them and paint them black. and i have no clue why everyone keeps saying wait to winter. Yah i could understand maybe stuff would cost more during the summer because thats when everyone is riding but if we are talking about the issue of it being to hot fuck its 110 at my house every day in the summer and thats nothing to me

alright well since everything is about doing everything the right way what type of high quality paint would i use on the nipples and spokes

alright and i think im going to buy those rims and leave them to the side in my garage and just ride my bike the way it is right now and after a month ill throw those babies on after i painted them with that paint you recommended . I already ordered a new seat for 20$ thats for my model (f super sport) and im still waiting on my bars, mirros and grips (it was a combo package that came together )

Those rims are alloy, but the spokes are pretty rusty looking in those pictures. The rims are anodized, so they don't need to be painted or polished. the spokes can be cleaned and either be painted (cheap quick and easy), powder coated or plated (best).

Not sure about disk spacing though or that 17" rear rim. One of the CB750 guys can better address that size question.

If you do get them and they fit, clean the rims with a gentle cleaner (non abrasive), tape the rims off and paint the spokes.

ill look at my tires in the morning and see if they match up in size as for spacing i wouldnt know that. Ill probably just end up just painting the spokes
