Title question in PA.

Well if you look, I'm a new member here on the forums, just got the title today from the PO. He never had it on the road. I'm here in PA, the title I received is from Illinois, and the original owner just signed of on the back of it in 2003! Just wondering if I'm gonna have any problems with It or if there are special steps I have to take to get this in my name and on the road? Thanks for the help!

Send a pm to Vonzinzer - he has done more title work in PA than anybody I know. Aside from an actual notary, of course.....

Unless the signiture on the title has been notarized in Illinois, PennDOT won't accept it. A signature alone won't work. As far as when he signed it, that doesn't matter.

Contact the last owner (the guy who's name is on the title) and see if he'll get it notarized for you. Or... Find a cool notary, explain your issue and see if they'll help you out.

I'm gonna try the latter. Hopefully I can get this resolved relatively quickly. I will let you know how I make out. Thanks!

It depends if the previous state was a notary state. For instance, NY and NJ do not require notaries. Therefore, an NY or NJ title signed by the seller can be transferred in PA without the PO's signature being notarized. The key is that no buyer can have signed the title until you do it in PA. I know this for a fact because I have purchased out of state vehicles many times.

Just a heads up, from a notary - that's a felony. You probably don't want to ask some guy at a bank or something.

So my options are pretty limited. I still have yet to reach a conclusion. Got a buddy working on something for me with it. He didn't go into much detail, but something about the state of Vermont was mentioned. But if this doesn't work, i know where you can pick up an untitled 1978 XS500 for cheap

No buyer has signed it. Just the old owner from Illinois.

In Indiana,(for no title vehicles) I have put a mechanic's lien on the vehicle. If that is possible in PA, it might be easier... maybe not though.
