TOO MANY HONDAS!

;) Should we enforce some kind of limit on the number Hondas allowed on the forum? I mean they are sweet bikes but c'mon what about a Beemer or something here and there? CB350's are like the Civic of vintage motorcycles, although I do have a soft spot for them (my first bike). Jus' sayin...

So... Too many old Hondas on a forum (primarily) dedicated to vintage bikes? How about some BMW's? I gotta say, I always thought it was THAT you ride, not WHAT you ride... Sure a killer BMW or Guzzi would be a great build to watch and share in, but when you can pick up a running cb for $ 500 and have a MASSIVE aftermarket to help you build the bike of your dreams, its kinda hard to say no to. That combined with the rich and stories history of he honda motor co. makes the A-OK in my book. I have 2 in the garage. (cb350, cb750) Dont get me wrong I'd love to have something more rare or "special" but (and I'm sorry for speaking for anyone...) money and fabrication abilities are often limited for a lot of the people on here. Im aware you were posing the question in jest (somewhat ;)) but its not the first time ive seen this sentiment put forth on here. I just hope we dont start seeing a whole lot of snobbish behavior. I already see enough people getting there balls busted for riding/building "that Jap crap" out on the street. Instead of giving people shit about what there riding how about we support them so that there skills and confidence grow to the point that down the road a BMW or some other non Honda doesnt seem so daunting. Everybody has to start somewhere, and if that place is on a dead nuts reliable and inexpensive cb350 (which is really just a terrific bike, no matter how you look at it) so be it. Dont worry though, you can always just not look at there thread if you find it boring.

if i had an awesome, not-so-common bike, i wouldn't do a thing besides a full restoration on it. hondas are an excellent candidate for project bikes, as vonyinzer pointed out.

but here ya go

I've had Hondas, Triumphs, BSAs, and Yamahas. I've been riding for 20 years now and have had more than 20 bikes in that time period. I keep coming back to the Hondas, they are super reliable, they have parts availability, they look cool, and they are affordable. The Hondas from the 70's are some of the most reliable bikes ever built.

double on that... my cb360 is sitting in my living room gassed up, oiled up and there's not a drop on the floor or any gas smell at all, any harley, triumph, norton, or bsa would require a kitty litter box underneath :)

^^^Amen to all of you! ^^^

I love all of my sub $500 Hondas as much if not more than any showroom bike i've ever owned...and I've made payments on quite a few!

I think it really comes down to availability and cost. I love British bikes but they are rare, expensive in just about any condition and hard to get parts for.

I park my cafe in the office sometimes, right in front of the front window--like the leg lamp in A Christmas Story. It pisses my wife off.

I've done two Hondas and a Yamaha 2-stroke. That's a little variety. The next project will be a Suzuki dirtbike cafe-chop-tracker.

I'm doing my big Suzuki because I found it cheap and it isn't something you normally see in the cafe world. I had a Honda CX500 and loved it but liquid cooling was what turned me away from that exact model.

From an internet perspective, If you're looking for other makes and models, they're at the "forums that will remain nameless to avoid undeserved keyword search metrics" that wouldn't let us post our "Jap crap" bikes there. People are posting what they're building right now. If someone is sitting on Beemer, Guzzi, HD, Trump, Enfield, Ural, whatever- NO ONE here is ever going to tell them not to post.

That is why this forum is the best.

I just appreciate the fact that "what you like" and "what you happen to find" intersect so frequently and happily in the cafe world :)

;) Now I knew this topic would get some responses! Don't think I'm dissing Honda's, I'm not....I lust after 400/550 4's, CB160's, Elsinores...and marvel at the RC166. And please don't think that I seriously want DTT to limit or block anybody from posting anything.

Bite your tongue!! I love my 350...... ;D

The thing I love about this forum is nobody hates on what you build. Even if it's not their cup'o'tea they still respect the fact that you're building something vintage and unique. You can look at 100 Honda builds and end up finding something cool and unique about each one, pull inspiration from them, and apply them to your own builds.

Hell ya. In the end its how and why that matter, not what...

I've been guilty of raggin' on Hondas for years! I road a Kawi and my best friend road a Honda! We had a blast riding together and ribbing each other about our choice of bikes! Deep down we both knew it was all in fun and we enjoyed lots of laughs together! I miss those days wth him. :)

Honda is an easy target because of the shear number of 'em on the road! I'm certain that's the case for most who pick on Honda.

For me it's just like cheering for the home team! "Kawasaki" is my "home team"! ;D ;D

Believe me, I'd own a Honda, Yamaha or a Suzuki in a heartbeat if I had the $$ and the space to keep another machine in the shop. ;D There are tons of cool examples of bikes from all brands! 8) 8)

Euro bikes... well, they're in a whole other "snack bracket"! ;D ;D

Leave it to the Kawi lover to bring up his bro-mance. We all know you just used him for his ride. ;D

I'm building up a Guzzi......... Really I am....... it's not an old cheap ass Guzzi rip off that will run for ever and be cheap to maintain and built by Honda

Actually gotta admit this is one of the few forums you don't get ragged on for building up a CX500 ;)

Cheers
