Hard to say without a pic... if it is close, give the guy a call. You really ought to take your some who knows bikes, if thats your Sporty man or someone else no difference, just don't take the sellers word on it.
Ad says he's asking $1000 and that was your total budget... so low ball him at first and settle for $700 / $800 but only if it's worth $1200 to you.
Sounds like the Owner has been into it pretty deep. Maybe he foiund something he didn't like.
Personally I'd rather buy a dirty, running, stocker, cheap that somebody has had in a garage for a long time that lost interest and want's the space... and then clean her up and mod it your way. But just because thats my Utopia, it may not be yours.
