Top Fork Bolt

I'm in the middle of a teardown and trying to get my forks off the frame.

Removed the top bolts on the forks, but it's not releasing the forks. Loosened all the pinch bolts too. I thought the top bolts are supposed to come off completely, but it seems to be connected to the spring. When I pull on the bolt and spring it doesn't come apart from the fork lowers. Fork leg spins around the upper and lower triple, so I'm a little confused.

Here's a pic:

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Re: Top Fork Bolt

You're trying to get the forks out if the trees? Don:t remove the fork bolt. Just remove the upper and lower clamp bolts (one upper and one lower on each side) and get yourself a manual stat.

There is a lock nut under the fork cap. You need to compress the spring, grab the nut with an open end wrench and then you can remove the cap.

Ok, finally got it out!!! Upper fork was completely rusted onto lower triple. Thanks!

One of my bolts in the lower triple snapped. Just got that motherfucker out! And yes, get a clymer manual or something as well. I did the same thing when I was trying to take the forks off half way.
