Trail Riding in Southern Ontario

Hey all. Not sure if a thread like this will get much response, but next season I want to do a lot more off road riding. It's becoming harder and harder to do in southern Ontario. It's not like the west coast, with its rolling hills and mountain trails. All nature-esque land here is either private property or no motorized vehicles. There are a few trails around that I know of, but you need memberships to take part in them, and I have no interest in that.

So I want to know if any of you guys have preferred spots to go. Just somewhere that you won't be bothered and won't bother others. No memberships, no strictly regulated trails, just a good spot to rip around for the day.

Hi Shamus,

What part of ON do you live in? I'm from out that way and have done a fair bit of off-roading... that was over 10 years ago and it was getting difficultto find trails to ride then. I used to ride Dualsport bikes with the fella's from the ODSC - Ontario Dualsport Club; and there is also the OFTR - Ontario Federation of Trail Riders.

Unless you're competing (MX, Enduro or XC) it's difficult to finds spots to ride unless you've got a plated dirtbike or factory legal dualsport. It's even getting that way where I live now (Calgary).

The biggest area that "used" to be open to OHV was the Ganaraska Forest - which is just east of the Hwy 35/115 North of Orono. Further east, near Bewdley there are some areas as well...
