"Traveler's" 1977 CB550K Cafe build

Thanks! Haven't heard from you in quite a while!

I got a little bit more completed today. I used starting fluid and tried to start my bike...she fired right up, and came to a screching growl, I gave her a bit of throttle and she jsut shrieked to 8,000 RPM in the blink of an eye! These 4 into 2 MAC's are NICE!! So, I knew then it was a fuel problem I have been having. I pulled the tank off and held the tank out and turned the spigot on.....nothing but a dribble.....hmmm :-\....I pulled the spigot, removed the spigot filter, which BTW fell in the tank and is in there dancing around, hehe ;D.....won't hurt anything......someday I'll take it out. Anyway, I then re-installed the spigot, after cutting that plastic pipe that sticks up off about halfway up.....now when I turn the spigot on, fuel streams out of it like it like it is supposed to......now I'm just waiting on my clear K&N filter I ordered a couple of days ago to show up so I can get the bike running under it's own power. I don't dare turn unfiltered fuel on into my carbs......don't want to clean them again! ;)

Next, I pulled the rear wheel, and sanded up and finished the cush drive and mounted my new alloy 37 tooth sprocket. As you can see form the pics, I painted the washers gloss black, just to be different. Here are a few pics

And here is a quick mockup with my brake plate on the wheel.

Now the bearings and new tire have to be isntalled on the Lesters and then re-install the wheel. This bike is about 90%+ done!

Can't believe it.

I know. Once I finished my 400 twin I didn't know what to do since I spent so much time wrenching on it. So I went out and picked up my 750f. I almost never ride my streetbob anymore, lol. The cb is way to much fun.

Whats next?

WHEEW!!!! Don't know.

There's alot of older Jap stuff I like.....water buffalo's, Kawi 500 triples, etc.

I hear ya. My next bike will be an early 500 or 750 complete restore.

Joe... those wheels where the best idea you had for the bike man! 100% completes the look of the bike, just fantastic man... ureal how good the whole picture is, has to be shaping up to be on of my fav cafes man! nice work...
Ha ha ha ha sounds like you and tweakin are coming to the dark side of cafes! ha ha ha that is awesome man, i love building these old metrics... i am going ot find a KZ1000 and stretch that sucker out way long and slam it for the next build!

Love the mags on there Joe! It really completes the look.

My wife and I are heading through SD this summer on vacation and I will be by to steal your bike. Just a heads up ;D

Got the bikes first ride in today!

It is so lean, you have to use the choke....adjusting it as she gets warm to keep her running, so main jets are needed, but WOW.

ALOT of power! The weight reduction I did, plus the 2 teeth smaller front sprocket has made her accelerate pretty hard! In fact, in 1st gear going about 10 MPH...if you smack the throttle it'll lift the front wheel off the ground a bit!

Also on a quick shift from 1st to 2nd once, it broke the rear tire loose!

So....I am happy! Just need to chase down a source for main jets for PD"46" carbs!

I highly recommend the 15T front sprocket for 550 guys who want 750 punch down low. ;D (of course, my bike is alot lighter than a stock 550)

Bike handled VERY well....rear shocks are STIFF.....Pretty cool little CB! ;)

Looks like Z1 enterprises is the place to go for some jets. Since I am taking off for 2 weeks on vacation, I'll have to try some 115 mains out when I get back and see it that'll do the trick!

Already.....I have the feeling of satisfaction that comes from having finished another bike. All this stuff I'm doing now is fine tuning.
