Tried clip-ons

Had long planned on my bike being a street-tracker which could become a cafe style bike with only a swap to clip-ons. Finally tried adding clip-ons during this weekend's fork overhaul. This is my pretty much my first bike, so also my first time with clips-ons.

Frankly, I'm a little underwhelmed, no doubt because this bike probably just doesn't make enough power for them to be useful. Handled just fine with the tracker bars, and I come from an off-road bicycling background so I'm used to big, wide bars. We'll see how it feels with the clip-ons through the sweepiest corners I can find around here, which ain't much. Sure does look cool, though. If you think a wheezy old Indian made Enfield can be cool, that is.

Here it is at home in the dirt with the high bars:

Clip-ons won't necessarily make it handle better (or worse). What they do is get you leaned over the tank in a more aerodynamic position. Which is better for road racing.

I think you're trying to make your Enfield too racy, sorry, but it just isn't. It's a slow bike with a lazy engine. I don't think clip-ons, which are added to give a sporty feel, will ever feel right on an Enfield.

Having said that: Enfields are great bikes, great fun too. I love my Enfield more than any other of my bikes. I would put those big bars back on if I were you and just enjoy the bike of road. By the way: It looks fabulous. I've not seen that oil filter conversion before.

Seen yours on the CMW forum, like it very much. Videos too.

When I put the Fireball engine in mine, it'll be plenty fast as far as vintage singles go.

People were using low handlebars long before bikes were particularly fast. In any case, I think the dirt tracker bars suit me and my riding, and the bike, better. But I'll keep these on for at least another week or so.
