turbos :)

Been Around the Block
while it's a long way down the road if at all, i'm tossing around the idea of a turbo on my gs1100. I'm a big believer in turbos and honestly this is just as much of a cool factor idea as anything else. so let's hear some opinions. as far as turbo/carb setups, what's been done? what should be looked out for? what suggestions do you all have? header lengths? carb types? intercoolers? I want to hear it all.

Maybe if you have to ask may be shouldn't.
But if you insist, ask someone who has ridden one.
Try the forum at Drag bike .com and the GS board.
'If' you can find a kit it will probably be a draw thru system.
If not it'll be all fabricated.
I believe blow thru is more efficient and drivable, but a little more complicated.
I had a draw thru kit on a KZ750, did not like the way it ran in mid range.
Seemed like the fuel would go thru the turbo and centrifugal force would cause severe fuel seperation.
Then it would hit the back wall of the manifold to remix with the air.
I tried different carbs and still no success with mid range.
There are a couple of blow thru projects I have, but they are on the back burn at this time.

yes ADP. I am, always have been.

I won't do a kit, it will all be fabbed, I'm no stranger to turbo systems or fab work. have never done one with carbs though.
Nebr, I've heard similar issues before which is why if I do end up doing this, I am leaning towards a blow through setup.

Most of my background is with turbo imports. (cars) I can't seem to pull myself away from the things (turbos). And now that i've finally jumped over to going to town with bikes rather than buying something fast and doing a couple bolt-ons, they are calling to me once again. it will happen, the biggest decision is if it will happen with this bike or another later on.

My first turbo fab job.......(mostly cause I miss it and need to look at it sometimes...)

There was another really nice turbo build on this website but I can't find it now. Some guy built a race bike with a turbo on it.

dane, you are an evil evil man lol. plumbing wise, that kit is nearly identical to what I was planning.....nearly. and boy is it lovely.

:D well I have been on the donor list for a gs1100 for a long time and figured I would share what I have found. Check out thgsresources.com if you haven't already. Tons of information on your bike with or without a turbo.

yeah i'm on there. honestly haven't gotten much out of them other than "keep it all stock and look for air leaks" those old men don't seem to like me lol

Of you have to ask a question with the intent to learn more on the topic... You are exactly the right person to be doing this! You have prior knowlege with the basic subject and in the end it is your bike. We might have to talk more about this though because I have always wanted a turbo bike and I'm not a bit afraid of fab work.
Excited to see you start working on this.

I'd be more than happy to come use your shop for the project :D that is what you were insinuating......right???

I had a CB750 with an ATP turbo kit on it. One of my biggest regrets was not firing it up before parting it out.

Single carb, turbine, fuel pump, exhaust and intake manifolds and what I guess was a waste gate or something. I know nothing of turbos, so it's just as well I sold the kit.

Got this bad boy sitting in my shop right now for when I start to tackle stage three of my build:

I'm sure we could work something out. I'm kinda right in between keeping my bike when it's done or putting it up for sale. It is only a 400 so with a rebuild I'm still lacking needed power. Maybe you have ideas for a setup I should try? Pm me your number.
