Iam putting VM30's on my cb360 and have the universal two into one throttle cable. My first question is what would be the best surefire way to go about cutting to the proper length? Would I measure end to end on the existing cables? Seems to me that that way wouldn't work due to the cables will actually be going into the carbs.
My thought is to hook up each end into each carb and then run the cable up to the throttle and make my cut there? I would treat it as if the throttle is closed right?
Other question is the throttle itself. Right now I have a new push/pull one from DCC. What type of throttle would I need or would this still work? Seems I would still have an opening on the "pull" side though? Also, shouldn't i have some sort of housing that hooks up to the throttle like on the push/pull?
By the way, it's the universal 2 into 1 throttle from DCC.
Good questions. There's a video on Youtube about shortening cables that's very good.
I'd fit the carbs and run the cables forward form there to see what fits and what doesn't. You have to navigate around/through the frame. If the carb ends and splitter can be made to work, only the front cable has to be messed with.
Now about that throttle. You can probably use it but here's the problem. Push pull throttles usually have a small throttle drum because they are a light pull and don't need to move too far. VM30's on the other hand need more rotation to go from closed to WFO. Your may be OK but if not get one from Motion Pro for a quicker action. Larger diameter drum, faster it open.
Yeah, that video I have already watched. It's not so much on how to do the cables as it is making sure I get the right length. Guess i am worried that I will cut them to short or not short enough.
Ah so. . Cut off the nipple ( the cable not yours...) and remove the inner cable. Run the cables from the carbs under the tank and up to the throttle. Mark where you think the outer needs to be cut. Double check. Move the bars from side to side to be sure the cable has enough slack but not too much. Check it again. Now cut the outer sleeve with Dremmel cut off disk one inch longer than you think it needs to be.. Re test the cable for length. If you are really really sure about the length you first though off, do a final trim.
Then replace the inner cable, cut to length and refit the end nipple to suit your new throttle drum.
hey az how did this work out for you? im doing the same thing with 30's and a push pull and same 2into 1 cable from dcc, mines really hard to open and sticks pretty bad. i used half a can of tri flo inside the cable. oh my adjusters on top of the carbs were broke. im looking for a whole new set up from a little dirt bike or something. just wondering how yours works.
Havn't done them yet. I am torn between using the stock carbs for now (which are on the way over to CrazyPJ's for tuning). i have a new throttle coming in for these cables and will probably tackle the project soon.
