Hello Everyone,
I am very new to the cafe racer scene and I have a 76 CB360. I just wrapped my exhaust and didnt notice it until than but my right cylinder heats up and stay much hotter than the left cylinder. Does anyone know what this could be? fuel? oil? compression. I am fairly mechanically inclined just looking for some help.
Sounds like the left isn't firing. Check the usual: spark, fuel, compression, valve lash. Also, check to be sure the left side points aren't grounding off against the points cover.
what do you mean by points cover? It seems to fire it still blows exhaust and gets warm.... im lost, i bought the bike to slow my self down and ride with my girl so just need to get it how i need it lol completely modified but need a reliable engine. thanks
The points are the system that causes the coil to discharge voltage down the plug wires and create a spark. On the left side of your engine (as you ride) there is a finned aluminum cover attached to the side of the head. That's the points cover. The 360s have very little clearance between the points and the points cover and it often shorts the system, causing one cylinder not to fire.
That's not likely your problem, though, if both cylinders are running. If the temps are off by a good margin it's going to be one of the following things (in a sort of decreasing likelihood order):
*Timing (this needs to be adjusted every couple of thousand miles)
*Valve clearances (this needs to be adjusted every five thousand miles)
*Fueling (running lean on one cylinder, time to clean the carbs)
*Compression (worn rings? Easy to check this one, though)
Even if the one cylinder is not firing it would still blow air out the pipe and would get warm due to the other cylinder heating up
Do you have the factory manual?
Rear it
It will walk you through the correct specs and the correct order to tune the ignition, valves, carbs, ect
Possibly, if there's an air leak making that side run lean and get hotter than the other, but the advice above is more likely.
While its running, pull the spark plug boot off the plug that's on the right. If the bike stays running, your left if firing. If it dies immediately, it's not...if it struggles its running but missing or out of tune.
Check the stuff Everyone else mentioned, and another thing could be carb sync if its way off. Also, on the 360s sometimes the points cover will ground out the points if the wires aren't connected the right way - happened to my left cylender at one point and took me forever to dx...
does anyone know where the best spot to get oem parts in the usa for older bikes is? also i seem to be leaking some fuel out of the carb bowl is there any way to seal that or need a new gasket?

Other then honda?
few places sell OEM honda parts online
If the gasket is leaking change it. Those K&L carb kits are junk, buy OEM
There are tons of things that could be causing your issue
Also we dont know if one is normal and the other is cooler, or much hotter. This would be two very different things. Bottom line is you need to make sure that your base line is right, that means getting the manual and reading it. Also if the bike has be modified maybe one of the mods is letting the bike down too.
start with the basics and keep working until you find somethign
does anyone have a shop manual that has the timing in it or a digital copy? I have searched and cannot find one. I watched a you tube video and it seems hard to follow and just want to go through the manual. I worked on track vehicles in the army so i can follow a manual.
There is a thread here someplace with downloads of the manuals
Anything other then the OEM factory manual is a waste
