Very slight tank leak.

Been Around the Block
So for years I've had a minor tank leak that's almost unnoticeable. Gas will gather on the bottom lip that holds the chrome moulding (left side). It's very minor but it does cause the moulding to become unglued and eventually it falls off.

I can't tell where it originates. The tank seems to be in great shape otherwise.

What to do?

The chrome trim goes on the welded seam of the tank - likely a problem in there somewhere. Going to be hard to pin-point. So the paint etc. is in good shape?

I'd start by removing the trim, drying out the tank and then putting some gas in while the tank is on a stand, to see if you can identify where the leak starts. I had a pinhole leak in an aluminum tank up near the tank mounts - only an issue if the tank was nearly full, so I just put some purpose-made epoxy on the outside of the tank on the weld that seemed to be leaking and that solved the problem.

Thanks Tim,

Yeah. The paint seems fine so it's difficult to say. I've got it off the bike now so I'll dry it out and try to track it down as you suggested.

All The Best,
Jason
