Victoria! Zeke's CB175 Build

Can we screw the axel bolt in and put tension on the rotor, hit it with a hammer, to loosen the rotor?

You could take that basket down to a single gear drive to get it even lighter... I used the other gear as a guide to flatten the cushion holders with a hacksaw blade and file.
Then you'll have a spare when it wears out ;)

That's exactly what we did on our 160-175 motors and then drilled a buch of holes in the gear to save a few more grams.

Looks like the edges of your clutch basket may need to be cleaned up a bit too. They look a bit notchy.
I used the file just to gently knock down the edges and keep the surface square for the new clutch plates that were installed.

In this picture you can still see the shadow of the wear marks.

One more-- This should help with sizing the retaining bolts.

I knocked the remainder of the rivets out with a nail set, they weren't hard to deal with once the heads were lopped off. Then they were tapped to receive the bolts that hold the backing plate. Just make sure the tap is nice an square when going in.

Smoothing the edges of the basket should help with clutch operation.

Good luck!

Thanks Alex!!!

while good experience for drilling things you won't gain anything measurable with a few miserable grams or even ounces on the basket gear
all you will achieve is worn out drill tooling
some aluminum clutch discs would lessen the clutch weight way more than a few lil hoes

I like that idea we will save the hoes for another day and the bits. We still have some holes to drill in the rear brake and aluminum is more fun to drill!

Zeke is still working on his tank. Brian Hobbs of Hobbsracecraft gives Zeke some pointers. http://youtu.be/Pe7DLOB1uEs

Several of the CR motocrossers used aluminium plates
