vin question

im guessing the number stamped on the motor is supposed to match the number on the frame where the forks bolt up right? i just noticed mine do not, if they are supposed to match, my bike has probably had a motor swap at some point? and as far as trying to get a title for the bike, do i use the number on the frame or on the motor? any help would be great thanks.

you never mentioned the bike in question, honda's dont match, they should be close but dont match other makes i dont know about?

Like Chris said, on Japanese bikes they don't match. Always title the frame. The number on the motor is different and I don't think it comes up in the DMV computers.

Unless its a vintage (pre 70s I think) Harley, you need to use the frame number. Thats the VIN. The number on the motor is the serial number for the engine.
