Vintage bike insurance with Desjardins

I wonder if you get a discount for bundling motorbike with auto. Currently I have auto insurance with desjardins and my cb360 is with Jevco through JR duff

I just spend 21 mins on the phone with a nice guy from Desjardins, but they do not have my bike in the systems:

I had the same problem, agent could not find my 73 CB350 in their system. She then said "we're not really big into insuring motorcycles".
I guess I have a very rare bike, or they have too many customers already. I even mentioned that if this transaction goes well, would consider getting them to quote my home and 2 other vehicles, she didn't really care. Oh well.

Just got screwed by Desjardins for my 69 CB350 ... they issued me a policy last week - great quote too. Happy as can be!
Rec'd my slips, noticed they had they wrong bike on the slips. Called back to correct - put me on hold for 15 minutes and then proceeded to tell me that they can no longer insure the bike because they do NOT go that far back. Human error!!! UGH! I'm pissed because I'm having a hard time finding a place that will insure my bike.

Any ideas?

I was told their cut off year for bikes is 1970. Sorry you missed it by 1 year.

For that price you should be able to go with whatever they call Jevco now. Call JR Duffy insurance.

Jevco is now Intact, and their rules are getting tighter. They have now gotten rid of their multi-bike discounts, which stinks. Anyone getting a good deal for more than one bike out there?

Sorry for the double post, but I just called Dalton Timms (http://www.homeforchrome.com/motorcycle-insurance-request.html) and they are very, very knowledgeable. Since I am asking about insurance for a vintage (1974 CB550) and for a custom (Lucky Strike), they do not offer multi-bike discounts (two separate carriers). That said, their quote for the CB was outstanding AND, if you get it appraised, will cover appraisal value as opposed to liability only (as I have now with Intact). Seems like a pretty compelling argument to switch. I haven't seen the fine print and haven't done any deep diving, but I will do so and report back.

If anyone has any experience with Dalton Timms, please chime in.

Dalton has a collector program from what I recall with heavy restrictions on riding the bike and an appraisal requirement.

Going to give them a call myself to freshen up my understanding of their offers.

It sucked royally because the quote was $390. Nuts! Oh well.

That's a little less than $425 I paid in 2010 for my 72 CB350 through Jevco. Intact will insure it now for $440 but they want 2 photos and a safety which brings it close to $500 total. Dalton Timmis can get an Aviva policy for $503 without any photos an safety. I'm giving Desjardins a call. If they can't do better I'm going with Dalton.

I went through Dalton for Intact for my '69 CB350 - no appraisal needed. Liability only but that's ok because we all need insurance to ride. Grrr.

Wow, Great thread !

I have Statefarm on my house and normally they do discounts for multiple items, but can't insure my bike on account of my colourful* drivers abstract... So my is currently with Nordic, and for a shit load more than the numbers I see floating around here. Giving Dejardins a call tomorrow. Thanks, DrJ.

* just speeding tickets, but a lot of them.

Having done a lot of searching for insurance, it's my opinion that you will be hard pressed to beat Dalton Timmis pricing.
They give multi bike discounts too.

Update, policy is up for renewal with JR duff/Intact insurance. Decided to call Desjardins and they quoted me almost half of what I was paying. $412/year for my 74 cb360. New policy is in the mail. thanks Dr-J

I've been ever so frustrated with INS this past year. Ive had my M2 for a year now (Im 24) with a clean record on my G for about 7 years, and they still wanted $200 A MONTH! Hopefully the coming year will bring praises, because I've been itching to ride my 76 360 and avoid it just sitting in my girlfriend's garage.

I was inspired and called them yesterday. From June till now my rate apparently dropped by more than 50% as they now want $91/mth...

This is a bit of a scam. They ask for multi-item quotes before they give you the quotes, and then take 10% off. I have three insurance carriers for my house, car and bikes. This is a sleazy industry. If only Bob Rae did what he promised to do in the 80s and purged these leeches of society out of the province (then he wonders why no one wanted to vote for him as PM ...hmmm). Since then, rates have spiked and benefits have been cut.

I used to use Kanetix.ca for quotes, but they now only have Intact, which is ridiculous.

The best way to do this is assemble all your info, make a list of numbers and start calling. Budget an hour. Many companies are now avoiding on-line quotes.
When you do this, you realize how arbitrary this all is.

Also, be aware the industry thrives on complacency. They will sneak up your rates if you renew blindly every year, and call your old insurers and ask them to recalculate or lose the account. Amazing how some magic new formula appears every time I do this on my car and house.

This is one good example where governments do a far better job than private industry for the consumer. Ontario insurance profits are ridiculous.

currently trying to leave Jevco (now Intact). insurance has increased by $180 in the past 3 years with no claims or convictions on a 69' Honda.

Wow. I'm surprised at some of the low quotes here.

Previously had a 600 super sports bike, insurance was 1300/yr.
My '80 cafe racer... $1100! This is unreal!
The above is through AllState BTW.

Has anyone had success with any other companies that are vintage bike friendly?
