Vintage Race Parts & Aftermarket Accessories, 60's & 70's.

Coast to Coast
As I have been getting into building and customizing old Hondas, I have found I REALLY like the Vintage Parts and accessories. As I have aquired them I have googled, yahoo'd and bing'd till my fingers are numb and found very little to nothing. I recognize most were small "boutique" businesses that are long gone or moved on to more main stream products. Since alot of what I like and find was made in the 70's alot of this stuff is then 40ish years old. If You were say 18 or older at the time (Old enough to have experienced or known first hand about this stuff) you would now be pushing 60. Before this info and stories is lost I thought it would be great to start to gather it.

I'd like this thread to become place to gather and display ads, pics of cool & rare parts, background info, Interesting Info. etc on the Vintage Companies and parts of the 60's and 70's.

You get "points" for rarity, and cool/fun stories.

We all know this stuff iscool so let's try to to keep the "Wow that's cool" "wish I had one of those" posts to a minimum. Let's make this a resource of info on vintage cafe, bobber, chopper, tracker and racing parts, and a place to drool over them.

Try and post a pic of the part with the following info:

1) Part type
2) Applicable model part is for A.E Honda SOHC CB750
3) Manufacturer if known
4) Interesting info on the manufacturer
5) How did you acquire it.

So to get things started I offer my Dick's Cycle West TanK. DCW was a "Boutique" in the 70's that manufactured cafe parts, typically under the "Racer 1" & "Brute Force Machines" brand. Alot was Fiberglass like Seats, Tanks, But also produced Exhausts and Reare sets as far as I know.

Dick's was, as I understand it, famous for his opportunistic making of un-authorized molds.

This tank is a copy of the French Dealer / Racing / Aftermarket Manufacturer "Jap Auto" Tank. This tank is a "modified street" version of the tank used by Jap Auto to win the 1972 Bol d'Or. What makes it a "Modified Street" Version is the "Pocket" or open space at the back of the tank that allowed a stock seat to be used.

A few pages from a Dick's Cycle West Catalog and an ad for a 4 into 1

And finally a Nice Clone of of a Jap Auto Racer of the era, that originated the tank design.

Re: Where should I start this thread???? Vintage Race parts & accessories.

I'm also a collector of vintage aftermarket parts. John Tickle, Paul Dunstall and even Ron Finch made parts for Honda bikes. I collect old chopper mags from the 60s and 70s and there's lots of ads from defunct manufacturers. Many of those makers were unknown, especially with the cast aluminum parts like finned points and stator covers. Ebay has driven the prices very high.

There's always the classic Piper DOHC 8 valve CB350 head.

Where should I start this thread???? Vintage Race parts & accessories.

That's probably one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Where can I get one!!!

I'd imagine it's what we would call unobtanium. You could get one if you could track down satan and make a deal with him for your firstborn...

Let's see some pics and some stories !

Haha it would probly be easier to just engineer one. I'll hop on auto desk when I get home so I should be done in a few hundred years!
