********For some reason I can't add on to my previous posts so to check my other posts on this topic scroll down to "Virago rebuild"***************************************************

Well, I've got quite a bit of work done since I've last posted. I now have a roller again. I have the frame blasted and painted, and the engine is back in place once again. As before, I stated that I wouldn't be modding this bike, and would be just restoring it to original condition. Now I'm on the fence again. I just don't know what to do right now so I'm sort of stuck. In the mean time I'll do all the work that has to be done regardless of the outcome. Right now I'm working on the full harness. I've stripped, separated, cleaned, repaired, regrouped and recovered all the wiring and other components. That's the next install and I'm NOT looking forward to that. The harness and carbs are the 2 things that give me the creeps with this project. If I screw up just 1 little thing with either and don't realize it, then the whole project stands still. The bike can look as great as possible, but if it don't start then it's just a paper weight. Anyway, I'll try to take more pics from now on 'til finish. Let me know what you guys think of the outcome so far. As well give me yout opinion on where to take this project; Chop, bob, restore or whatever? 'Til next time........

***********Also today I cleaned out my garage after working in it all winter. I took out my toys and projects and figured it was a good time to take a "FAMILY PICTURE" LOL Missing is a Yammie 80cc dirt bike which is in the garage, and 5 more nice quads that I have stored at a different location in a garage that I own. Yes, I know I have a bike problem.I've sought help but can't seem to find any...just more bikes.************************************************************************************************

Re: Watch my Virago build April 30

Well, I know what I'm building next ;)

Seriously, I'd love it if you could just bolt on a saddle, hide a fuel tank somewhere and ride it just like that.

I like your method of keeping the bike upright off a stand. I'll have to hang some straps from my rafters for doing oil changes etc. on my center-stand deprived XS650.

Re: Watch my Virago build April 30

Lookin good. Always thought the Viragos were kinda ugly, but seeing that whole thing apart gives me some ideas. Nice job!

Hey, what's the gray enduro on the end?

Re: Watch my Virago build April 30

I saw a cafed Virago years ago, and it looked pretty damn cool! I think it was a 920. The guy had put on a shorter fork and the tank from a different Yamaha, maybe one of the early XS bikes, but he'd welded up a custom subframe and the overall effect was righteous! It took me a minute before I figured out that it was based on a Virago.

I've said it all along: You can cafe anything if you have the time, talent, and materials!

Re: Watch my Virago build April 30

Looking good man..... You can drop the forks in the yokes if your looking for a more aggressive look. 8)
Just make sure you don't go to low, as the wheel will come in contact with the cylinder head.
PS I got low handle bars if you need them.

That's exactly what I was thinking as I was viewing the pictures. Would look really cool stripped down like that, minimalist.

Great work woodsv. Quite a stable you have there too.

Hey, you never know. I seem to be changing my mind as I go about this project so anythings possible. I'm considering putting this aside for a month so I can get some ideas. And in the meantime, if I do that, I could start some minimal work on my cafe project. That SL125 is gonna be transformed into a cafe when I get going on it. I have already decided how to approach the tank and seat combo. Without going into it too much in this thread, I'll just tell you that I already have the mat and resin to fab a cafe seat. I don't believe in going out and buying all the components and bolting them together. That's somebody else's creation. I believe in making whatever you can, and there is no shame in trying to do it as cheaply as possible. Mossy, if you read this, did you get that 2nd rebuild finished? And I see the Triple is looking for a new home. What's next?

Started working on the carbs finally. I also have the bike about 70% put back together. The carbs are going to really turn out to something special, or at least I am hoping. Everything is being disassembled on both carbs and sandblasted with glass medium, and I do mean everything. Even the screws! Then everything is either being shot with clear coat, or painted and the cleared.

Bike as it sits now. No finish work on the body yet, and the front caliper needs to be rebuilt and painted

Carbs

All the parts and 1 carb after blasting. Everything charcoal is painted then cleared. Anything silver has been blasted clean and then cleared on top of natural finish. No paint at all. The aluminum parts really look good after glass blasting and cleared.

1 carb before any blasting for referance against the blasted carb above

I'll post up when the carbs are done. Gonna look real nice...
