** WELCOME to DTT**

Re: ** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

I just created an account yesterday after accidentally stumbling over this site. I could not have asked for a more informative and insightful webpage. So about me: my name is Michael and I'm a broke college student at James Madison University. I bought a 1978 Kz200 last summer on impulse. She rode nicely last summer, until my regulator fried. I bought a new one (most expensive thing on the bike so it seems) and she started but later that day she started reving without me opening the throttle. A day later she wouldn't start, just kick over. The carbs are cleaned but may need adjusting, thats about all i know. Anyone have any info on how to possibly get her started? But the reason I joined this site is because I love cafe racers. Bought the Kz200 hoping to build one, which I will be starting the project this summer if i can get her started. When I get back home (Leavenworth Kansas) I'll be stripping her down, repaint everything, find a seat or make one. So, if anyone could help me with anything mentioned above, seeing that i am just getting into bikes, I would be grateful.
-Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike. Your best bet is to start a build thread in the Big Arse Projects section. Youll get more love over there. Sounds like your having an electrical issue to me. But what the hell do I know. There are plenty of VERY smart folks on here that would be much more helpful. For now though I would get a multimeter and start tracing wires. Also on your other questions grab a beer and spend a couple hours looking through the site. Youll find the general answers to all of your queries. Welcome to DTT man.

Hey guys

After spending about 6h just going through the shine and all the amazing bikes on this forum I was convinced to join :)

My name is Srdj and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, So when I saw that there are people on here from around Toronto I was very excited. I have idolized the cafe racer from the time I was a kid back home and yesterday I finally got a motorcycle. She is a 1978 Honda CB550k, needs a new tank and a bit of lovin, but here is the kicker, it has 8123km on it..... Original engine and everything on it. It has been garaged since 1979 and 2 years ago the previous owner had a safety done and got it road worthy. I traded my 32" Toshiba LCD as I am a student without a lot of finance, but saw the opportunity for this gorgeous bike and couldn't pass it up. I would eventually love to have it turned into a cafe racer, have a few ideas in mind... Once I figure out how to post a picture I shall.

Thanks for everything in advance and I will keep ya posted

Re: ** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

Hello all. The short of it. Live in New York. Photographer. Noob when it comes to bikes. Quickly falling in love with them though.

A friend of mine has been shopping around for bikes in hopes of one day creating a "cafe racer." To be honest i hadn't given motorcycles of any sort thought until as of late. The more my friend and I talked it over the more I wanted one. I grew up mostly working on hot rods with my dad so I'm not completely lost when it comes to the mechanics on an engine. I do however, lack any kind of motorcycle vocabulary so please bare with me.

After looking at motorcycle after motorcycle I came across this.

http://www.deus.com.au/#/bikes/motorcycles/customs/deus-sacred-cow-w650/

To put it bluntly.... How do I build this? Or can I ever get close to it. What do I start with? Etc, Etc.

Thanks all.

Will

Re: ** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

Hey Guys, I'm a newbie of the newbies. This is my first bike as well as project. I have a 81 Kawasaki KZ650 H1 that I want to transform into a cafe racer. I had it tore down and now it's back sorta. I'm having some diffeculty getting the electrical working again. All connections are made with the exception of magnetos and wires and I still can not turn over the engine. Only thing that comes on when I turn on the switch is high beam and neutral light. Looking for some help there, as well as trying to find rear sets, modern sportbike frontend that I can use. Any ideas? Shoot em my way. Thanks.

Re: ** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

Boris here. Definitely a newbie. Just got my first bike the other day. An '81 Cb650. It's kind of a basket case, which I guess is good because I won't have to worry about screwing up any nice new shiny parts! ;D I plan on leveling out the rear end, ultimately to "attempt" to make my own cafe racer seat. I also plan on rebuilding the motor completely, maybe juicing it up a bit.

Around here, "Basket Case" is another term for "Lots of potential" ;D

** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

Hello all!

Newb to DTT but not to bikes!

The name is Chris, my game is wrenching. Motos, carros, you name it I love working on it!! Along with my father and brother, I have built a couple bikes and am currently working on another. I don't conform to specific styles or genres of bikes, if the bike has originality, ingenuity, and lots of love well heck! I'll appreciate every last detail.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone here is building, and wish everyone the best!!!

Thanks, we'll be chattin sooner than later!

Re: ** WELCOME NEWBIES to DTT**

Hows it going guys,

Well, I've never ridden or owned a bike till recently. I just bought a 1975 CB750F Super Sport that I'd like to cafe. The bikes in great shape and I'm hoping to keep it that way. It doesn't need anything but I'm planning on getting a tank and seat combo from BCR, and a bunch of stuff from Dime City. I'd better get posting to get that discount.

I'm sure I"ll have a ton of questions and hopefully I'll find all my answers here. ;D

Simon
