Closing day on the house I bought was today. The current tenants new place isnt ready for them apperently and they flatly refuse to leave until Sunday. I would very much like to go in there and bodily throw them out but two problems. The first is that since they havent turned in their keys, the land registry office wouldnt give me my title. I could theoretically call the cops and have them booted out legally, but I myself would still have no legal right to be there as I'm not registered as the owner. Second problem with going in with a couple friends and "helping them move" is that they could likely have me arrested, and or wreak the place.
These people were offered $500 to be out this morning by the seller. They are what I believe you would call white trash. We had to have the local gas company go in and hook the gas back up since they had been behind on their payments, tampered with the meter, and were cut off! It's pretty damn cold here in Canada right now and once their space heaters leave we might find out water pipes freezing up and bursting.
So my lawer told us to get a hotel for the weekend and enjoy ourselves, keep the reciepts, and the seller will reimburse us our expenses as he had agreed to have them out by this afternoon. So Ive got the whole family here in a hotel, we're having pints and awaiting some chinese take out. It sucks and I'm going to have to miss work on Monday so we can move in. Ive got a letter from work stating how much money I would have normally earned so I can get that from the seller as well......
four day weekend with paid hotel, take out, and day off.
