Well here it goes... My first build 1971 cl350

There was quite a bit of progress today. Nothing's perfect yet, but it's a roller. Just in time for winter :). After I took these pictures (the camera battery died) I mocked it up with the stock trim and just drag bars with the fenders and all and I gotta say, this one may not turn out to be a cafe racer... Anyways here are some pictures (gotta love how the flash shows the dust):

I'll take some pics of it with the stock trim and see what you guys think. Cheers.

Thanks! They are painted with appliance epoxy. The stuff works and covers wonderfully and it's tough and inexpensive. I love it.

Update, got some more done. I chopped the front fender. Cut the handlebars and ran the wires. Drilled holes in the stock headlight ears for the new turn signals and painted them... You know, stuff to make it more like a bike... What do you think? I couldn't resist taking it out and taking pictures of it on such a beautiful fall day.

Decided to go with drag bars instead:

I'm going to get the stock seat re-upholstered. Get some OEM air filters. Paint my side covers to match. Chop the rear fender and put a lucas style light on. I'm thinking about maybe painting the spokes red after seeing tweakin's Harley.

I've just got to make sure I get this thing running again before winter really hits. Cheers!

Oh yeah and I can't stress how much I love the appliance epoxy paint. I've used it on my wheels and my headlight ears. It's almost as nice as the PPG I shot everything else in. Definitely a hell of a lot better than standard spray cans.

Looks good. Red spokes? Not my cup of tea. Christmas bike?

Thanks guys! yeah, red spokes just seem like they would be awesome to me for some reason... What's wrong with Christmas? :)

I am so impressed by your paint! for real! has to be one of the nicest paint jobs i have seen on the forum to date! great work man!

Thanks JRK! It means a lot coming from all of you guys! I'll let you know on the tuning. Right now I'm actually looking at trying to find some of the old stock air filter boxes to refurbish so I can use them and the side covers. Sort of leaning towards the more trimmed down stock look than racer. It's still up in the air though.

I may have alot of that from mine before i cut the frame up... i can look i know i have the metal filter holders (air boxes)... but i am pretty sure i tossed the holder for them. I also used the conector rod for another project... but you are welcome to use what i have... hell i think i have the side covers somewhere as well. i am not going to use any of that (side covers are missing 350 tags (i took those off to use them on the swing arm of my build)

I just need the old filters, I have the black holders, rod and side covers. If you have them that would be sweet. I know that VonYinzer is looking for his too, he's in Pittsburgh. You're in Chicago right? I'm smack dab in the middle in Detroit. I want to go along these lines. http://www.hondatwins.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1477

Update time. My girlfriends out of town so I have time to work on the bike :).

Joe, I think I may be able to run the UNI filters with the side covers and not worry about the stock intake boxes. So I may not need them, but if you could keep them around just in case that would be awesome.

So on Wednesday I worked on the bike quite a bit. I got the wiring run, fixed a few wires that needed it. Wire wheeled and painted the battery tray and tool box (more appliance epoxy:) ) and I'm sure I did a bunch of other stuff. Oh yeah, adjusted the valves. I was very close to getting it to run, but the starter wasn't getting any juice (I know I'm a pussy and use a starter. To let you know I did use the kick start, but life's a lot easier when you're going over things by yourself to just push a button). So I checked all of the connections and finally got it working but it's grounding out somewhere and starts turning every tome I give it juice from the battery charger. I think it may be from all of the condensation since the points cover was off and sitting in a pole barn with rain for the past 2 days. I'm going to go back out early next week to chase this problem down. But it's getting damn close. It was nice to hear movement out of the engine. Anyways, here are some pictures of the bike almost completed. I have to work on the side covers a little and repaint (I spray bombed them last year and am not happy with the finish) and get badges. And I have to paint the other header still. There are still a ton of little things to do, but it is getting there.

Awesome, Joe. I will let you know early next week if I need them. I'm still thinking that I want to try the red spokes... I guess I could always paint them black again if I didn't like them.

beautiful bike man!!!! i love the way you broke up the paint on the tank, it flows nicely with the backbone of the frame. Its your bike but imho i think red spokes would throw off the whole flow of the bike........ Good luck!

Red spokes with the green on the tank will be tough on the eyes, but then again Christmas is coming : )
