Well.....I bought one.

1976 Honda CB550K.

Bought off of eBay. 30 miles from the house. 15K miles, all stock, NICE condidition. Has cb500 side covers on it, but no matter, as the side covers will have the emblems shaved off.

Going for the CR tank and seat look. Clubmans with bar end mirrors. Any ideas for paint?

bike already has 4 into 2 megaphones on it, all else STOCK.

I'll be home in a few weeks from Afghanistan...until then the guy is gonna keep it indoors for me, as he is a vintage motorcycle dealer/enthusiast.

Since I can't access photobucket from here, I can't post the pics. :(

This will be my first 4-cyl. bike. I really wanted a sohc/4.....I finally have one now!

Something to go with the Big Twin H/D I have.

Pretty stoked!!!!

OH GREAT!!. NOW YOUVE DONE IT!!.. get ready for a life of MISERY & REGRET!!...

just kidding.. I loved my cb550f... COngrats on the new toy!!

Thanks.

Now, I just need an alloy CR tank and Alloy CR seat.

and some other stuff........ ;D

~Joe

Sean at RocCity is gonna hook me up with an alloy CR tank, and a CR seat, and a tank strap.

Now I gotta figure out the color....any ideas?

As of right now, I'm looking at using some clubman bars, MAYBE an EMGO bubble fairing, some bar end mirrors.

As soon as I can, I'll start throwing some pics up and build progress, if anyone cares.

~Joe

shit, if your springing for the tank and seat, you might as well get some clipons too.

Hmmm.....what size are the tubes on a '76 CB550K?

To do it, I'd have to get those EMGO headlight brackets.

After the tank/seat, paint, and bubble fairing (painted).....the rest will be VERY budget. I decided to splurge on the tank seat...becasue frankly, that's the look that really does it for me. Anything else, and I'd never be happy with it.

I got what I wanted, that being a VERY clean stocker. The plus was it already had the pipes I wanted, was right at home, and runs perfectly, carb all dialed in, etc.

Heck, all I got to do now is a little bit of fab work and ride it.

joe that is sick man! on cafes i like bright race style colors, white and blue always pop man! maybe powder the tank in a candy blue using a dorment... something like this with a bit of flake, then high gloss white stripes or scallops would be dope!

Hey Joe....thanks for posting this stuff up.

Sean at Rock City is already starting on my alloy tank and seat....CR750 Style.

Can't wait!

As soon as I get home, I will start up a build thread.

~Joe

Shit - I'm more interested in the workshop the 550 is sitting in. Looks like an awesome space.

If I was going CR style, I think I'd have to stick with the classic black frame w/ red seat/tank as on the vintage racers. Black out the exhaust etc.

But it would be a shame to cover the alloy tank/seat. Maybe leave some exposed polished aluminum.

Nice bike, but please don't get the Emgo Viper fairing. It's too big and looks nasty.

I've decided to skip the fairing....just the stripped down cafe look.

The tank and seat will be fully polished.

Vintage wing stickers on the tank from M3Racing (the gold wing version)

Clubman bars with bar end mirrors

Side mount license plate with cat eye tailight (painted flat black)

side covers painted flat black with a checkered strip horizontal down the center

Cut back the stock front fender, drill out the rivets and powdercoat the fender flat black with checkered stripe down the center and remount to bracket with nice chrome button head bolts.

Project will be under $3,000 total investment.

Joe when you open that sucker up can you please let me know what size jets it is running? i need to replace mine bad in my wifes and that is the same set up i have, if yours is all dialed in that is perfect, just let me know what numbers it is running... thanks bud!

Can do...no sweat.....no heat in garage, so on a warm day, I'll take a peek inside one of the outboard carbs.

Looks like stock exhaust with meg mufflers. Wish I knew more about them.....they look perfect (to me).

Really happy that the bike is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and about half the price of a similar condition 750.

Tank and seat are currently being built.

Within about 2 months it should be done.

Wonder who might like the stock tank, seat and rear fender?
