What does everyone do for their "real" job?

Well, looks like my job's changing. They want me to admin the servers at work, so I'm training up for that.

A few weeks back i started part time work at a Vegan Cafe in the city (which suits my diet no end). The only problem is the work varies between 30 hours one week and, like this week, 5 hours the next. Still it'll suit my plans to go to university next year.

well congrats staffy, glad you found a job you dig, makes going to work so much easier!

I used to be a scuba instructor and equipment specialist, loved that job to no end because I had a deep passion for diving. I am not so in love with my job now....but the pay is so much better, I am salary, so no worries with "what will my pay be", and I work week days only! So all of that added up to a happier off time lifestyle. Some times you have to take a tradeoff.

I hope it works for you to stay at this job and get some education....that will open much bigger doors for you!

Congrats to you and best of luck!

Air Force rocks, Its the best kept secret EVER. Just signed my 20 year contract a few weeks ago. 21 more years guarenteed work, pention at the end, salary and the whole nine yards. I dont even need to worry about buying work clothes!

So... Pention at 43. I can live off my sugar momma in my garage/ shop building bikes and custom anything all day. 8)

It occurred to me the other day that, had I not gotten injured, I'd be looking at my 20 year retirement from the Army this year. Kinda depressing.

I am a technical designer in the sign industry, figuring out how signs mount to a building, hang above the ground, and how they stay right side up. It can be a very interesting job and sometimes it can be down right sucky, but it pays the bills and the sign industry is a passion of mine, hopefully within the next 5 years I will open my own firm. I truly enjoy working with a design from the conceptual stage all the way through to the install, and meeting with the customer is always a good time, as long as we did good work, haha.

Just got my PhD in psychology in December and got a job doing neuropsych testing.

I think about quitting every single day.

I seriously hate it. I will be teaching at a university this fall though and I'm really looking forward to that. Trying to save up some money so I can quit in January. I have a crazy plan I'm just starting to put into the works.

A girl I knew in college was a psyc major, going for her doctorate. She worked nights at a bar. She said it was like an extended lab class. ;) ;D

On a tangent, I know a few girls who are head cases...

Man... Forgot about this rad little thread. I guess Ill post up the new job since Troy brought it back to the surface. Since Sept. 2011 I have been working as a Service Engineer (which is a fancy way of saying mechanic) for a German company. We build and service coal mining equipment (mostly longwall shearers), wind turbine gearboxes, And industrial gearboxes. Basically we build HUGE transmissions. I focus mostly on the coal mining jazz. Pretty neat. Its a 120,000lb machine, thats 45ft long and produces 3k horsepower using four 4180 volt electric motors. Our machine produces approx. 11,000,000 clean tons of coal per panel (about 6-7 months). Neat stuff.

I've been lurking for awhile, but started the build on my SR500. Anyway, I'm an air traffic control supervisor for my day, night, midnight job, part time bass player in several bands around DFW when I can.

journey man Boilermaker local 1032 (thats fancy talk for stick/mig/tig welder) my work is at a 2nd bigest locomotive shop in the country we cut apart and rebuild wrecked trains
