What does everyone do for their "real" job?

Some times I wonder if I have permission on some of the sites. Some of them are in the most redneck back woods locations I've ever seen. maybe not as bad as deliverance but close.

I figure the more official I look and act the less trouble I have with the locals. You show up with the gear and the combos to the lock and act like you know wtf you are doing most people don't think twice let alone pay attention.

I will say this, if you are even remotely scared of heights, at least find someone to borrow a harness and use it otherwise you'll end up stuck up there with no way to take rest, hell find someone that climbs and go with them it's always better to do it with a buddy.

Otherwise don't try that stuff at home kids;)

I'm just gonna wear my highliter yellow vest for riding and some jeans/boots/and a flannel and go. Anyone asks me questions and I'll just flash a quick badge or something.

I'm actually an avid climber, so I've got all my own harness and gear to lock me in. I'm really gonna do this. I don't know when, but I will. I'll take some pics for you guys.

Update: Manufacturing Engineer Intern at ConMed Corporation. Massive company that makes medical supplies and tools. I work in the molding department; more specifically the wire and cable division.

WWll Race Planes

l work around and on WWll Reno Race Planes....so like Mustangs, Sea Furry's...These old planes are a kick in the ass to watch take off as l'm close to the run way and see all kinds of bad ass race planes...then it's up to Reno NV in late August to see them race...
Some of these planes race at 450mph+ with horse power at 4200 to 4500...28 cylinders...Was wounding how these engine's would fit into my next Cafe' Build

If there was a prize for coolest job description, this would be a finalist for sure.

I tend bar. As much as I love it, it's definitely not a career for me. My ultimate goal is to get into the brewing industry. Or something related to my seemingly useless history degree.

IT guy, specializing in security, intrusion detection, encryption, stuff like that. Lots of Linux servers, a few windoze boxes. Spend alot of time playing with firewalls and data mining security logs. Caught a few hackers (bad ones, not the good kind of hackers..) and of course teaching noobs not to click on every damn shiny button on the internet. Been doing it a long time, love it most of the time.... hate the paperwork though....

Was trained as an aircraft mechanic but spent a few years as a yacht mechanic
Now im and aerospace engineering student

For the last year I've been 'between engagements' as they say
My lay off was nothing to do with the surgeries I've had from work related accidents ::)

Army Fire direction specialist...I (trained monkey type 1) basically tell the guys in the other half of my job (trained monkey type 2) where to point the rockets, and when to shoot them. Might sound cool, unfortunately is not.

Army water treatment supervisor. Also not nearly cool as it sounds. If anyone has seen the movie "In The Army Now" with Paulie Shor that is my job. My platoon is tasked with providing clean drinking water when service members are forward deployed and drinking water is unavailable. When we are back at "home" however all we do is "babysit" the equipment and train the new soldiers.

I am a programmer in a corporate IT group. Probably has a lot to do with why I have no fabrication skills.

Firefighter/Paramedic and this is my ride.

In my previous life I was in the Coast Guard as a Deck Ape in the Gulf of Alaska and Bearing Sea (see Deadliest Catch for the crap I was floating around in), then I went into aviation on Dauphin HH65s and was an avionics technician/flight mechanic/search and rescue. Got to see the middle east.....must have made a wrong turn  Now, I am a senior resident physician in a Family Medicine program. One year left....then I an start really paying back my huge loans. yay...

I got one of those SS forms that tell you your estimated earnings. The form also tells you when you started paying in. I started paying in in 1959! I thought time to go. So I retired. That was a year and a half ago. Best thing I ever did!! Don't have to kiss the bosses ass to get time off for Bonneville. Don't have to rush back. The year before last we had to leave on Thursday to get there for the start of SpeedWeek and leave Tuesday to get back for work. Last year we left on Wednesday and had a leisurely drive there. And didn't leave until the following Friday. Retirement beats the shit out of working.
