What does it take?

If I want to do the ton on a cb350f, what does it take? What kind of mods would I have to do to the motor to get it spinning fast enough to go that fast? I have 2 1973 cb350's. One is a twin and the other a four. I have never built a cafe racer, but would like to start weighing my options for doing a mild cafe build this winter. The 350f has no adjustment left on the cam chain adjuster. So I'm thinking it is just a matter of time before that one needs to be cracked open. If I am going to build a cafe racer I want to do more than just make it look like one on the outside. I want the motor to get some mods too. I am leaning towards doing the 350f but if I do that one I would like to know it can hit the mark. Opinions?

Gearing is your friend. You will lose all your low end, but gear it down an you'll gain top end. I know thats not engine mod, but it will definitely help.

+1 on this

I thought about maybe a small (quarter?) fairing.

A jet pack in not in the budget.

Some things I am contemplating are:

bore it out, new pistons and rings
valve job
new valve springs
port and polish
high flow air filter
It already has an after market exhaust, but not sure how well it flows
replace the cam chain and rollers
electronic ignition
jump up one or two extra teeth on the front sprocket

If I did these things will it do it?

Top speed from the factory for the 350F was 97 mph. You should be able to hit the ton going up one tooth on the front sprocket.

Well....trust me when I say this particular 350f is not going to hit that mark without blowing up, but thanks for the info. Do you know what the top speed is for a cb350 twin?

You may look into that jetpack it might be cheaper haha. With all that engine work I'd say you should be able to do the ton. Also don't forget to jet the carbs.

Yeah, I bet when I get to pricing all that stuff out things change. I'm sure doing all that will skew the investment worth ratio WAY off. I'll dream for a bit and then do as much as I can stand to pay for.

I believe it would do it in stock form with a full fairing if the motor was tight. Ehayst will help. And I'd drop a tooth on the rear sprocket. I think going up a tooth on the counter shaft sprocket would make it pretty dull to ride around town. Weight isnt going to have a factor here @ all.
