What would you do with this pos...

I've only been aware of this site for a few days but realized quickly it's my kind of place. I recently had a turd of a 1976 XS500C follow me home and I'm in the process of getting everything freed up after it's 28 year slumber. I have a few ideas for it but nothing decided and I thought I'd get some opinions from some fellow gear heads. All I know is the 8 valve dohc twin kinda calls to me and I wanna do something cool with it.

So, the queston is what would you do with it? Cafe? Rat? Bob? Dump in a ditch somewhere? Obviously the lines lean toward cafe, but everyone will expect that. Anyways, here's some shots.

When it came home:

After a purging of 70's touring crap:

im a big fan of brats and trackers. so those are my go to ideas. or you can drive to oregon and let me have it!

You do whatever you want with it! Check out some different build threads or motorcycle blogs. See what it is that you like, and go from there. The tank, being angular and longish makes me lean towards cafe. Rearsets on the passenger peg mounts, strip it down as much as possible to save weight etc.

Also, did you steal my Girlfriends jeep liberty? LOL she also has a lifted silver liberty.

The problem is I like everything! If I had a big enough garage I'd have one of all of em'. I've been looking around and seen some real neat stuff here and elsewhere. I'm leaning cafe too just because it wll be pretty simple and come out looking like a factory yamaha race bike without much fabrication, but like exploring all my options. I guess I'd be fighting it's basic design if I went another way with it.

That's funny about the Liberty. Is hers a turbo diesel too?

Naked like that it's just another old bike, but that body kit looked really , what's the word..... retro futuristic. I'm no fan of that type of fairing and bags, but it looks so integrated that I'd be tempted to make a really funky thing with even more of the sides covered - a sort of Art Deco style. Think trains of that era or the Rocketeer etc. I don't even like that style, but something about that bike talks to me in an odd way.

Well if you like EVERYTHING, then just start building. The bike doesnt necessarily HAVE to fit into any category, it can be whatever you want it to be.
No hers isnt a turbo-diesel...just a sluggish 3.7

I like that square edged design and the bulky cast wheels of the naked bike
so I'd suggest some kinda resto mod.

Best regards
Sven

Like an old land speed record bike? ;D That would be cool, but it's too late. All that stuff went to the dumpster. It was probably pretty nice when it was first done that way; it looked like quality stuff, right down to the sweet am/fm tape deck...

Square edged tank and cast wheels are definetly staying. Those are two things that also caught my eye about her. The wheels will look great powdercoated (or painted)
