wheel bearing oil seals that won't pry out?

Maybe I'm missing something or maybe it's because my cb200's seals are 35 years old, but I cannot pry out the oil seals with a screwdriver. I've already destroyed my front one. How do you get these things out?

I can order a replacement for the front seal, so no big deal, but haven't found a replacement for the rear.

Try heating up the hub with a heat gun or a torch. They're probably going to need to be replaced after being taken out regardless of how neatly you do it.

you generally CANT pry them out, but more use a drift and SMACK them out. Another idea is the above, but you're pretty much not going to be able to save the bearings no matter how you go about it, and frankly, i dunno why you'd try. As far as the seals go, dont bother trying to pry them out either, just grab something to use as a drift, and whack away. They'll all come out.

Tried heating the collar of the Hub for a while and was getting no where fast. Then said screw it and heated up the seals themselves, then was able to pry them out. Managed only a faint whiff of burning rubber.

I don't see how you'd use a drift, especially with a rear drum brake hub - there's no way you could make that angle to pop them out.

Sorry man, I havent messed with a drum brake bike in so long i wasnt even thinking about that...lol

Well I was watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArFC3xPHhGA
Tried prying mine out with a screwdriver and about snapped the screwdriver in half before heating everything up.

I guess since I've gone this far I should go ahead and replace the bearings? Its a 74 cb200 w/ 6k miles.

You might as well replace the bearings if you've gone this far. You can usually get the bearings along with the oil seals for pretty cheap. The bike may only have 6k miles on it but the bearings are still probably 34 years old and it would be a good idea to at least repack them if that's at all possible. It may save you some problems somewhere down the line.
