I think we should start a thread of snap shots or videos of doing the ton.

what do you guys think? Im not trying to promote speeding, just thought it was a cool idea.
and if a video is made, I am not responsible for putting you up to it. If that is your excuse to the officer :) Cheers

I was in NC not long after I first built my CBX. I was still sorting out the bike and suspension but managed to get it down the road ok. The ton? Yea, I think so!

Wow....what an awesome sound ! I had a silver CBXz back in the 80s, I fitted a Marshall endurance 6 into 1.....it sounded like a formula one racing car.......what a machine !

Love that sound!!! Raucousness at its finest!

Havent hit the ton on motorcycle yet.... Had a try at it this morning on my dads Honda Shadow... got her up to about 90 and the bitch wouldn't give me more (had wind in my direction). Was on a close by highway...

June of 1969 on a 1968 BSA Lightning. On the Magazine Hill (going up the hill) Dartmouth to Bedford. Two lane road, pre-helmet. Quiet evening. Both Smiths were buried, speedo and tach. Engine howling. I didn't dare look up from the instruments until I reach to top and eased off the throttle. Haven't done it since. Most alive I ever felt. Now I'm 60 and just one more time.... rollie in NS

Bluenose, Don't you know 60 is the new 20? It better be or I'm in deep trouble. I turned 65 last Dec. and am putting a blower on the sidecar in hope of hitting 135 at Bonneville this year.

Yes, Its living at its finest. Everything else is just waiting. Stop waiting, start living.

Last thursday, RT.11 SB, Ohio.. The Honda just wouldn't do it, so I had to do it on the Kawi :)

Any race track.

There is basically no where to go a ton in the US and very few cafe race/bobber/brat's will get anywhere close to that which is probably just as well because they would not all be safe at that sort of speed. There are some very notable exceptions of course.

But we really don't need this thread to encourage someone to prove they are a man on a Cafe Racer doing the ton. Let's keep it real and kill the thread before we kill one of ours.

Just did the ton on the expressway behind my house. Probably my 100th time though. Wear your gear guys, be safe.

Heres the compilation of 100+ rides so far....

Honda XR600R: 100mph? (speedo only goes to 93mph/150kmh)
Aprilia RS125: 105mph indicated
Honda CBR250R: 115mph indicated
Suzuki GSX-1100EF: 120mph indicated

Each of those is the record for the bike, usually only hit once or twice for kicks on a very long, quiet straight about 20km out of my sleepy country town. I generally enjoy tighter backroads at speeds that are a bit saner... 50~80mph is a quick speed for the roads I like to ride. Regardless, I'll get you guys a video of me tonning it on the XR600R if you want.

Hoof - don't worry about age, do what you feel like. Hell, my grandfather is 84 and still rides a motorcycle. Looking to 'downgrade' from his BMW GS650 to something lighter - he was asking a lot of questions about my XR600R last time I saw him actually.

teazer - while I agree not to encourage people beyond their limits, I see nothing wrong with an opening for free expression. If people want to yack it up and talk about the rides they've done and the speeds they've gone then I've got nothing against it. Just don't do anything stupid like show your face/bike/house in the same video you're doing illegal things haha.

Cheers - boingk

Boingk, I'm not worried about age. Its one of those inevitable things. Like death. What bothers me is 40 year olds with a bucket list. At that age if you haven't done it you probably won't. And like the virgin spinster they'll die wonderin'.

I can't remember the name of the old English guy. One of those hyphenated names. He was still riding at 102 last I heard. I'll keep going as long as its fun. I'm putting a blower on the sidecar right now. I want to see 135 out of it at Bonneville this year. I have to go to Bonneville. Joe, my crew chief and the middle guy in my avatar photo, has already booked his hotel room (non refundable). So that puts the pressure on to get there. : - 0

DTTing makes you tingly all over. New 20...humm, I get to do all the fun stuff again, nice. Hope you hit your goal at Bonniville. Next time I DTT, and I will do it, it will be on the track..too many old people on the road.. rollie in NS

Hey Rollie, good plan, the speeding fines in NS are retarded high. For like <25 km over the limit it is 350.00 or something and >25km its 700+ I have hit the ton on the little bike on the Divided Highway here a couple times and on the GL1000 2-3 and once on the way to WV last year just cause it was the first Annual DTT GTG I was heading too. I think it was when I hit WV from Maryland and went down the first big steep hill, the bike went well over the ton before I backed off the throttle a bit, limit was 70 and all. Don't do it now much because if I got a ticket I would have to sell the bike to pay it.
