Where do you work, what do you do?

If it don't fit, you're not trying hard enough!
Just out of curiosity, thought it would be interesting to all share what our day jobs are. We all know we spend all our free time wrenchin in the garage on these old lumps. But how do we fund these crazy labors of love?

I guess I'll go first. I'm an Electrical Engineering Technologist specializing in variable speed drives for electrical motors. I mostly work on AC low voltage (up to 690V), but have gotten into some big DC stuff as well. I get into a lot of different applications from 1/2HP all the way up to 2000HP, and work on projects that ship all over the world.

I also work with Servo systems, Pneumatics, PLC's and Robotics and all the controls that go with everything. Most projects are for industrial applications, but we get the odd hobby guy that wants to control the speed of his grinding and buffing wheels in his home shop.

Nfld Pirate- Health, Safety, Enviroment and Quality Manager for a supplier of pipe to the offshore.
Rather be wrenching!!!

Retired from 20 years in the USAF 10 13+ years ago. Now work as the Executive Assistant to the president of the company I work for as well as working as the Contract Administrator. The company made power production equipment for the communications industry; essentially our stuff takes AC, turns it into DC, and stores it in batteries. It's a little more technical and complicated than that but there's no use getting too detailed here. Yeah, I'd rather be home wrenching in the toys, too.

Not that it matters, nor that anyone really cares, but I can't believe all this time has passed and that I've been hanging around here this long! Well, that company was bought by another and then those buyers were bought by GE! ??? I got laid off in the second wave of cuts before the sell-off and then was unemployed for a year. (the economy in central Ohio really sux!) Now employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs in a local clinic... oh my, how life changes! ::)

As my name says, I fix hopters ;D. I am charged with the care and feeding (and the occasional late night road trip to troubleshoot and repair) of an EMS helicopter.

I own and manage a test only facility for the Drive Clean program. I know, I know....... booooo, hisssssssss!! We test light and heavy duty gas and light duty diesel. We're located in north Mississauga. It operates much like a drive in lube centre. Test while you wait. Exciting, huh. :(

I too am a graphic designer. I work for a 20 person ad agency that does a variety of work for company's like Hawker Beechcraft, Dean & Deluca fine foods, and Delta Dental just to name a few.

I've been here just a little over two years.

I'm an antique furniture, jewellery & art dealer.

In previous life stages I've been a banker and an IT guy.

When I grow up I want to be a Mechanical Engineer... I figure I'll go back to school when I retire in 20 years  :D

And in answer to your questions...

................it's not worth that much...

................reboot 3 times, if that doesn't work buy a new computer

:D

Lowly factory worker here. Just quit a job with Firestone Ag tire division after 13 years to return to school. Currently employed at Spaldin/AAI. I build gymnastics equipment such as vaulting boards and whatnot. I hope all the upholstery work I do while at work will carry over to a kickass cafe seat for my Honda but I have my doubts.

As of now I'm a full time student working towards getting my art teaching certification. I'm in my last semester of classes right now, then this fall I do my student teaching and hopefully next year at this time I'll be getting ready for my first art classroom. School has been ongoing for me, started working on my bachelor's in studio art in '96, took a few years off for a corporate job that I hated, went back to school in Nov. '05 to finish my last 32 credit hours for that degree and Aug 07 started my art ed program.

Engineering Manager for a manufacturer that specializes in CNC machining, manual & robotic welding, assembly and painting. We supply locomotive, construction, forestry and material handling equipment OEMs.
I have had a few different lives in the past ranging from full time musician to Systems Administrator......

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

What a GREAT thread!!... LOL...Very interesting..

Over the past 6 years I've been what is called a Solution Executive, (Consultant of sorts), specializing in Business Intelligence Application and Automated Reporting technologies. Basically I help companies in the Energy Sector, quantify then document their compliance & governance reporting process, then put the technology in place to automate it...
Essentially, I "sell" the exec of energy companies on a " better " way to report on their performance metrics.

Then I step out of my home office & wrench...

I am an Office Manager and Marketing Manager for BG Lubri-Care Distributors Inc. We market, sell and distribute chemistry to auto dealers and repair facilities and to the general auto industry such as fleets. The products we offer extend the life of a wide range of vehicles. They also reduce emissions, increase performance and make vehicles more fuel efficient while reducing the need for costly future vehicle repairs. And the stuff really works! I basically manage a small crew of about 10 and I direct the branding and market presence for the company. I design a lot of the marketing materials as well. Our territory and market covers the state of Connecticut. I am very happy with my job - for once.

I am a CSR at a call center for T-Mobil in the US... And I'm a fulltime engineering student at Memorial University.
Civil now, but still early enough to re-declare.

for 10 years i printed foreign and domestic (canadian) currency. After being laid off I moved up to toronto where i now work at home depot half nights f/t and watch my daughters during the day f/t ....sleep whats that?
