im wanting to build my old microphone into a taillight for the cafe, but i wanna use LED instead of a bulb...simple fact takes up less room, brighter behind guard and other general benifits...the pickup (2 in diam. - 3/8th depth) is removable and in a rubber gasket which hopefully ill be able to fit the LED in just right...few pics to help out

Never heard of that one - I always go to www.superbrightleds.com for mine.

And the mic would look killer if you can pull it off!

ah ya know wat just popped into my head, they make LED conversion for maglight flashlights and i happen to have one and sure enough they are the same diam. so now i just gotta find if they make it with red LED's...that would work perfect if its not too thick

+1 on both accounts.

www.superbrightleds.com would be the spot... if you need any help let me know i make LED brake lights all the time! just made a set of a snowmobile this week

^^awsome how do you think it would be to make one that will fit into the rubber? and what would ya charge me?

bigred, I drive a tractor/trailer and I slapped my forehead when I saw/remembered these today... Big trucks have recently started using the three marker lights at the top rear of the box/trailer as third brake lights. They make a 2" diameter "pop in" style marker light that doubles as a brake light.
Here's an eBay ad showing you what I'm talking about... CLICK HERE
The chrome trim is a cover on top of the grommet, the red lens will pop right out. The lens itself is 2" diameter.
You could order those, and have a spare. Or, If you have a big truck chrome shop nearby or maybe a utility trailer dealer, you could probably physically put your hands on one and check it for fitment.

thats wierd, after i got to looking through superbright.com i found almost the same exact thing, but i think they are just used as a marker light...so the fact that those you recommended double as a brake and running light should work just right as long as they clear the grill on the microphone...thanks preesh it!
heres the ones i found

Lucky's Choppers in Seattle made a bike with vintage harmonica mics as miniature spotlights. Gutted, slots enlarged with a die grinder to let more light out. Looks killer.

Nice way to truly personalize your ride. Always better to adapt something you own that has meaning than to buy some cheap chi-com knock off.

thanx i actually just picked it out of a machine shopd junk pile, i had to make a trophy for our lawnmower races at the party we hold every year so i was looking for random stuff and this was just layin there, so naturally i had to save it, and have had it for awhile now, but nothing to use it on so i figured the cafe would be perfect! maybe i should paint it green as i may be using a lot of recycled parts...nah that too new age, its a cafe by all means!
