Will a Honda CB500T tank fit a '74 CB550 without modification?

There's one online that says it's a 1976-1978 CB500T tank., will this fit my cb550?

i think the top tubes are different, but not 100% sure... cb500t has a single tube with side mounts.
and i think 550's have two smaller tubes on the side to provide engine mounting....again, not certain of this......im sure someone will chime in.

Thanks willy! I decided not to buy the tank I saw on ebay, too pricey, instead I'm gonna try hammering in knee dents. Fun :)!

No, it won't fit. Well, that's not exactly true. Yes, it will fit over the frame and drop down far enough but the mounts won't line up and you will find that the tunnel is quite wide as well. Of course you can make one work, just make up a new set of mounts. Oh, and the reason I know this is because I bought one of the tanks to try out on one of the 550s I have here. I bought about a half a dozen tanks to try out and ended up going back to the stock tank and modifying it.

A popular tank that does fit more easily is the CB750F. Hard to find sometimes but has a great look to it.

I have my tank off fixing some paint problems and happen to have a 750f tank. Here's the pics- its longer than even the 500t tank so a seat mod is required.
