Correct. I believe anything over 130 or 140 rear you will still need to offset drives.
 
Killer build man... I spent my lunch break reading through it. I am looking at building something along these lines just out of a 78 750. Turned out great man!
 
Yeah. This build is awesome. I'm working my way through a 78' 550, but it doesn't look even close to this! I was drawn in by how your battery was set up. I love the cleaned up frame look, and this build is just about as clean as they come. I see you used an anti gravity battery stashed under the set in a pan. Very cool. I'm interested in the process you went through to do a clean tuck like that.
 
This is just the nicest bike i've ever seen. Amazing custom work! Went trough the topic a couple of times now!

Quick question, what paint did you use for the engine?

Since the controls, battery, turn signals, horn, headlight rectifier and battery were new I figured it would be easiest just to wire the whole thing from scratch. This is the wiring diagram I use

The motor was powder coated when I disassembled it.

I'll throw in my sincere appreciation of the work done along with everybody else. this build is perfect.

I do have one question I couldn't find reading through the posts. Did you modify the steering stops on the forks at all? I'm swapping in a gsxr usd front end into my GS550/674 project and am definitely going to need to modify them. Looking for some ideas.

the top triple tree and hub look gorgeous, I expect to be ordering myself a pair off your website soon.

Could you post some pics on the rear brake set up? I think that I want to make a similar set up on my CB500. Did you have to shorten the brake rod?

I could shorten it but I have not yet. Here are some pics. I made a custom bracket to shift the rod over. If you need one for a tarozzi set let me know I will see what I can do.

I removed the steering stops from the gsxr lower and welded on new ones. I would like to see a steer damper would act as a stop as well. I'm going to try it on the next one.
 
Thanks for the brake setup info. It seems to be a lot more stable than when people are making z-bends on the brake rod.

I tried that but it just flexed the rod. That's why I made the hard bracket to shift it over and pull straight. Also flipped it since I eliminated the the countershaft.

are you still running the 180 rear tire? I read a few pages back that you should run a 160 instead but I see you worked around it. Any issues with clearences? Also, I saw you got your front sprocket from cycleX, was it just the front or did you find one for the rear as well. I saw on their site that for the 750 you can run 180-200 series tires with the offset rear sprocket but it doesn't say anything about the 550.

The 180 is still back there. Haven't bought another; don't think I will until I need too. CycleX only sells the front and I special ordered the rear from kingsalesandservice.com

Everything is very close to hitting but so far so good.

- Are you able to use the kick starter with the rear sets mounted like that?
- Also it looks like you made a small modification to the swingarm bolt on the left side where the rear set also is mounted? I am asking because on my bike I don’t think that the swing arm bolt is long enough to also have the rear set mounts on.
-And one other thing. What did you use for paint on the exhaust?
