Wire for wiring loom

Roro

The really perverted one amongst us
Hey guys, I want to make a new wiring loom because mine is in very poor condition, I am relocating a lot of parts to the tail and I want to use weather-pac connectors throughout. I've looked for days, but can't find anyone who sells bundles of different colored cable - ideally I would like to keep the OEM coloring for everything. That's 28 different colors

I've visited several local auto electricians and all the local stores but they keep no more than a dozen colors loose or entire rolls of anything I want ordered in. DIYAutotune sell bundles, but these are all labelled for EFI

Anyone know where I can get a kit?

Try a home appliances scrapper. I just gutted a washing machine and scavenged the wiring for spares. Lots of colour combos. Or visit a local bike shop, they usually have boxes of old harnesses for cheap.

I used Ancor marine wire. It's great quality wire, comes in a lot of colors and gauges. You'll never find the 20 different colors your wiring diagram refers to. You can run a black sharpie along the wire to double up the variety, kind of like what the stock wiring is like.

I did my XS650 custom wiring in the 16ga marine wire and have been very happy with it. Not cheap - if you want cheap, rip out wiring from a junkyard car or bike and source the wire from that.

If you're making a custom loom, you don't need all 1253354 different colors that come stock. My old cb350 had a custom harness and I was able to get the harness down to about 10 wires.

Finding an adequate selection of wire colors is a long-running frustration for me. Rarely is there more than a dozen colors. Pacer has 14 colors of fine strand wire.

I once had a bookmark for a supplier that had a MUCH greater selection of colors, but they disappeared.

DCC has some striper (ie White/Black) in quite a few colors. I think if you wan't original colors it will take several orders to different suppliers. You could find out who makes the wire and then contacrt them directly.

That's terrific! They have 19 colors! They say they have 20 colors, but I counted 19. It's not the same quality of fine strand tinned wire that Tim pointed to. Still, it's pretty reasonably priced. They are 13' lengths, which is enough for a wiring project. I am looking for a source of 100' spools as a shop supply.

Have you talked to DCC. Maybe they can hook you up to their supplier, or at least come up with a larger spool?

Check out TerminalSupplyCo I used them to outfit my entire FSAE shop back at school over the summer. Lee is very helpful and she is very nice. Also I don't think there is a minimum order but they can get you what you need in 100" rolls. I bought all automotive GLX wiring, very good stuff!

Or if you want stuff for one project, go get a car wiring harness, plenty of wire with different colors at junk yard prices!!!

That looks like a really good supplier. Still only 14 colors listed, but they said they might have products that are not listed. It makes it a lot easier to extend handlebar control wiring when you have wires that match what is already there. Many wires on bikes are not solid colors.

They have some interesting "kits." A whole rack of wires with an assortment of connectors.
