Wiring issue questions for XS

Tunz

Been Around the Block
Been working away at my XS cafe project and have it running good now and everything, but have a few wiring issues. I can roll the engine over with the starter button even when the key is off...dont even need the key in there. i know it is just somethin stupid staring me right in the face, but just wondering if someone had an idea...i checked out the wiring diagram and was thinkin that my problem was the wires coming off my starter relay...diagram shows that the re/white wire coming from starter relay goes to a "safety relay" which I dont believe was ever on my bike from the day I bought it! The wiring has been hacked by a few different people in the past so it makes it a bit hard, but I'm tryin my best to tidy it up a bit and most of all make it functional!

second question...today I was boosting my bike to start it as my battery needs a good charge...I realized that my left side coil was heating up pretty good....like way too hot for my liking. just wondering if someone has an idea why this would happen...once again probably something obvious....but wiring kinda screws with me sometimes haha

anyways...any help would be greatly appreciated!

cheers

That would be the problem. I'd say they've somehow bypassed the ignition switch and connected the starter circuit straight to the battery. Also, with the coil getting hot when you are charging the battery means it is live as well.

You need to either pull the harness apart and follow it through with the wiring diagram, or get another harness.

The bike ran good all last summer with this wiring...but since the rebuild its a bit hard tryin to git er back together since some of the colors are different now and whatnot...I'm sure i can get it figured out without having to get another harness. Just gotta figure out the starter button problem...it has to be run to key switch im guessing and then to the battery. Just gonna take a little head scratchin
