So, like many Newbies of DTT, i've bought myself a little something to work on. About a month ago, with all the money i saved up AFTER i got married...AND as part of my wife and my Anniversary gift, my wife FINALLY let me buy my very first motorcycle. A BRAND-SPANK'N-NEW-to-me-Used-1973 Honda CB450!!! so now, here i am...still haven't even learned how to ride...broke...starting grad school...and COMPLETELY new to Motorcycles. i feel like this project isn't gonna start off on the right foot, BUT i'm STILL happy that i've got my very own bike. =D i've been reading each and every post on DTT since i bought my bike and i've been learning something new EVERY day. unfortunately, i've ran into a big problem; a week before i set out to pick up my bike, our garage was TOTALED by a drunk driver, leaving me with no space to work on my toy. as of right now, it sits at a buddy's place where i've been sneaking out to go work on while the wife is away(she gets a little jealous when i go play w my bike). i guess my posts are gonna be short and boring for a while until we get the garage repaired. i'm glad to be a part of this forum and please be patient with me and my stupid newbie-questions. i just want to learn from the best out there as well and develop myself along the way. thanks for reading!!

Excellent choice! Before you take it apart, get it up and running well and learn to ride it. Mull changes over for a long time, gather inspiration, and make small changes that you can do in less than 1 day and never leave your bike in a state that it can't be ridden.

Otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of parts all over and a bike that can't be used. Save that for your second, third and fourth bikes ;)

Thankyou! yes, i would like to get it up and running asap. as of right now, i cant seem to get the carbs properly tuned. i've cleaned out the carbs twice already and checked all the points and spark plugs..no luck. i dont wanna have to bring it to the shop just yet tho. riding season's almost over up here in Wisconsin, so i'm cross'n my fingers and try'n to get in some time to work with the bike before it gets too cold. no big dis assembly plans yet as of right now.

welcome! dude we have exactly the same bike ... nice choice!! :D haha good luck with it, greets from holland.

Great point Tim! I was more concerned with $$$ so I bought a roller for my first build and now am spending more $$$ trying to get little parts here and there. Really want to just ride!!! Had I just saved up for 2-3 months I could have easily been riding.

BTW, I used to have to mask my time with my bike by saying I'm doing yard work or even start work an hour early so I can get home an hour early to wrench just so that my wife doesn't get too jealous, haha! The good news is jealousy soon fades and I even have a nice "comfy" chair for her to come out and hang/talk when I'm now in the garage. Anyways, good luck to you!!!
