Worth it?

Coast to Coast
my buddy's selling a 2001 Suzuki katana 600. Hasn't ridden it since 2007 or started since about then. I know the carbs are gonna be filthy, but aside from that, fresh gas and a new battery, I don't see why it wouldn't fire up.

it also needs tires and a chain. the sides are scuffed from laying it down.. but its In pretty good shape regardless.

I'm estimating it to be around $200 in parts.. and he is only asking 1k.

I'm really not a sport bike Guy, but I think it would be a fun reliable little ride

I'm gonna try to post pics from my phone, but sight unseen do you think its worth a grand, then put another few hundred in to get it road worthy?

go for it. offer him 800 so you can cover parts, and then have a dead reliable, very fast street machine.

heck, if you dont need another street machine it would make a fun track day bike!

Honestly Shaun, there's gotta be something else wrong with it. Since there are scuff marks, you know its been wrecked. Check that it has a clean title. If it does, do all the other stuff to make sure that it is fixable. Shift through the gears, bring a battery and make sure the motor moves freely and electronics are ok, and visually look at the front sprocket (no welds).

Shouldn't you be saving money for a reliable car anyway?

I got a new to me cavalier in December. 102k is plenty new and reliable. Should get me through another few years

yea I'm not in love with the styling.. but after parts I might have $1300 into it.. cheap price for a fun daily..

I'm having trouble even finding a reasonably priced CB in my area

Man I have to agree with ya that seems like a fantastic price, with little labor involved, to have a dependable daily rider. And if you wanted it wouldn't take much effort at all to make the bike look a little different. For the little bit of money invested you could get a lot of use out of it.

Ya man... Its not a bad bike. Just goofy lookin. You have (had...) a perfectly reliable, every day bike though. Shoulda bought a cheap project and left her alone. hahaha

The cm is still reliable as it ever was.. I just can't leave shit stock.. especially maroon paint ::shudders::

the cm is still a perfect bike for everyday use, I just want something a bit different And new. the cm will still get plenty of miles put on her, plus Im gonna teach my brother to ride using it

A buddy of mine had on 01 that sat at my house so his parents didn't find out about it.. They're ok bikes, not fast, kinda heavy, but reliable. The 1k isn't a bad price at all. They don't seem to hold value very well though, I've seen quite a few of these go for 2k and under..
